Does anyone know if the Greens are still going ahead with their Special Convention on the Treaty? I read in the IT on Wed that it may be cancelled?

Why is it up to one country to save democracy in Europe?

Because of our Constitution. It is actually unique in Europe and there is a reason for that.

It was forged at a time in history when people wanted to make sure their elected representatives could not give away the people's power to someone or something not directly answerable to the people. Been there done that bought the disillusion.

    Once was enough.

I read that too. According to the times they were going to scrap the "please don't hurt us" option and do with a straight yes or no option.

Do not worry mmclo - the right to complain about balance is not confined to any one side. Just get your overall coverage figures together and fire them in - let us know how you get on.

Yeah, here is the link for those with a subscription -

    http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/irelan ... 77171.html

"The so-called "technical resolution" for the Green Party convention to decide policy on the Lisbon Treaty for EU reform on January 19th is now in doubt and the party may opt for a straightforward Yes or No vote

There has been much negative reaction to this proposal, seen by critics as a "fudge" or "cop-out", and it has now emerged that, in discussions on procedure at the start of the convention, members may decide to dispense with it.

In another sign of nervousness, plans to admit the media for almost the full debate, except the final vote, have now been shelved and reporters will be provided with much more limited access."
