    That's not true.
what isn't true about it Smiffy ?

That the EU doesn't plan on becoming a supra-national federal entity, or that if it does, it won't require a federal tax ?

You'd want to be blind not to see that "federation" isn't on the horizon no matter what way its dressed up, or what you call it

Some of the leaders of the European project such as Barroso have already intimated that the EU will be an Empire, albeit the first non-imposed, non-imperialist Empire in civilised history

But an Empire none the less

Part of the reason of the EU is to stop Beggar Thy Neighbour tax policies and Irelands low corp tax is arguably a form of such. While we benefit a lot from it, adopting a broader perspective, one can see why folks in Brussels might want to discourage it. If a race to the bottom happened with low corp tax in all EU countries this would certainly leave shareholders better off and its not clear thats good for the least well off however.

so you want Harmonisation to bring up Irish Corporation Tax which would beggar ourselves, while having no discernible effect on nations with higher Corporation taxes as they stand ..

    Fantastic logic there ..

(that was being sarcastic, I feel I need to point that out)

Actually if you look at what I am saying you will see that this is not what I am calling for all I am saying is looking at it say from another EU country's point of view who might regard low corp tax in Ireland a beggar thy neighbour policy. The Eastern EU countries add a further dimenion into the mix

Yes, it would. We, along with Cyprus have the lowest rates of Corporation Tax in the Eu. We'd have the shortest route to the lowest rate, so we would have the lowest pain(if any occurred) of the whole Union. We've beaten the Germans and French for foreign investment by a country mile, we can do so again and again.

We should defend our tax sovereignty with every fibre of our being and ensure that we have the most attractive tax treatment for businesses and individuals within the whole EU.
