Dutch referendum

http://euobserver.com/9/24763

"A key report by the Council of State, the Dutch government's highest advisory body, says there is no legal need for a referendum since the new treaty does not include "constitutional" elements, according to Dutch media. "

I would've near bet the house that the Dutch would have definitely had a referendum.

Their Council has argued that it doesn't require a referendum as there are no bits that are in conflict with their referendum. However the upper house may block an attempt to force it through parliament.

This blatant ramming of the EU down people's throats will be the end of the European project eventually.

The policitians seem to think

It's too important to let the plebs have a say.

and anti-EU parties can only prosper in such a climate.

Our own referendum will offer only one option.

You can vote how you like as long as it's yes.

The EU is getting more like animal farm every day.
While they had 4 legs good two legs better, we have referendums good, pork barrel votes better. I intend on voting no to any treaty out of spite. Its petulant but I have not sympathy for the EU's position, the created this situation, they can resolve it.

I intend using my right to be pissed off to vote no because millions more are being denied this right. It is for their rights that I'm voting no. Even if they were to vote 99.9% in favour they must have the right to express that. The EU through its disregard for democracy has created and maintained this situation, and it must extricate itself from it.

I think it also comes down to trust. If 2 people offer you the same 'good' deal, you may still refuse it from one of them because you don't trust him even if you would accept the deal from someone you do trust.

Okay, I know it's from wikipedia, but:
"the Council of State (Raad van State) is a constitutionally established advisory body to the government which consists of members of the royal family and Crown-appointed members generally having political, commercial, diplomatic, or military experience."

Apart from the royal family bit, it sounds quite like the Council of State here.
