Delors "critical" of Lisbon's "limitations" on eve of implementation

What "limitations"? This fellow was allowed to be head of the Commission, and he's this rambling? Never mind the utterly imperialistic language he utters, mixed in with his disdain for the ordinary people.

EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS – One of the most respected political figures during the European Union's 50-year history, Jacques Delors, has voiced his disappointment at the Lisbon Treaty's limitations, less than 24 hours before the new set of rules comes into force.

The Frenchman – president of the European Commission during a ten-year period noted for the institution's proactive spirit (1985-95) – told journalists in Brussels on Monday (30 November) that the new treaty was little more than a step in the right direction.

And he added that his support for the document comes "more out of principle rather than real enthusiasm", laying the blame on the shoulders of European citizens who are out of touch with what is important for Europe.

"If the European population want to leave a EU for their grandchildren that will be relatively well-off but without real influence on the world stage, that's their responsibility," Mr Delors said at a talk in the European Economic and Social Committee. ...

He was probably another one of those nasty french men involved in the drafting of the European constitutuion, so it might be that. If it is, somebody should tellim Shakespeare's quote about "A rose by any other name..."

Silly fellow - doesn't he realise that it's the treaty to end all treaties, extinguish all freedoms, and put the lights out all over Europe?

Delors confirms what the supporters of the YES side in recent Treaty debates were saying all along, i.e. that the Lisbon Treaty does not constitute the end of the democratic world as we know it, the triumph of a fourth Reich or any of the other nonsense that its opponents trotted out (and continue to stumble over). Well done, M. Delors!

No, he doesn't say that anywhere. Where did you hallucinate those words?

The "democratic world" (presuming that has meaning) doesn't exist in the EU, you know.

You mean per Otto von Habsburg's words? Ah sure, he only said that the EU's living by the "heritage" of the Heiliges Römisches Reich. No evidence to contradict him, but plenty to support him.
