    No religious discrimination exemptions in the EU

    I can see it now: homosexual activists applying in droves for jobs at churches just to see if they will be rejected, so they can bring up a lawsuit.

    I view churches the same as I view private clubs. Their job is to inherently discriminate, why else would you go there if not to meet like minded people?. I would not want to send my kid to a pre-school or nursery run by my local church only to learn later that the teacher or the janitor are homosexual.

    Simply put I should have a choice as to who associates with my kids.

    This has happened in England. Does Ireland have a legal framework or assurances from the EU that it wont happen there?

    Care to explain why?

    Are hetro janitors better at cleaning that gay ones? Are hetro teachers proven to be better educators?

    Get over your prejudice.

    I have drawn that very comparison myself many times - but in my case it is to get the churches out of our education system completely and to suggest that they have no right to interfere in civil affairs. By the way, what´s wrong with a homosexual teacher? My daughter´s best teacher is gay and recently got married. Can´t see what your problem is!!

    Just so long as you keep your children away from the Church...

    What ever you do don't let your child near the computer!

    Homosexuals post on the internet and even if they are writing about archaeology or fishing they're sending gay photons out of the monitor and into your child's brain. It's one of their main ways of making new gay people.

    Tell me how does employing homosexual people go against any specific church teachings? The thread title is utterly misleading btw as there will still be religious exemption! Did you read your own link?

    From the link you posted:

    The EU commission agreed, ruling that the exemptions are “broader than that permitted by the directive.” The British government must now redraft anti-discrimination laws. The new proposals would allow religious organizations to decline to employ homosexuals only if their job involves actively promoting or practicing a religion[...]

    The Christian charity, Care was critical of the decision, the Guardian says. “If evangelical churches cannot be sure that they can employ practicing evangelicals with respect to sexual ethics, how will they be able to continue?” the organization asked.
    ...Since when has it become ok to ask about "sexual ethics" in an interview?

    And of what relevance would the private activities of the teacher or janitor be to their ability to care for your kid?

    In any case, your source has exaggerated what has happened. The Commission has sent a "reasoned opinion" to the UK to argue that the UK's transposition into UK law of an EU directive on gender equality (to which the UK agreed in 2002) is inadequate and needs to be revised.

    For the United Kingdom, the reasoned opinion raises the following issues:

    the definition of indirect discrimination is too narrow, as it does not cover potential discrimination;
    the exceptions to the principle of non-discrimination on the basis of sex for certain jobs are too wide;
    the exceptions to the principle of non-discrimination for "office-holders" in political institutions are not defined with sufficient precision;
    the right of associations to support victims of discrimination before the courts is not established with sufficient clarity.
    The UK has two months to reply, and if the Commission is not satisfied it can then bring a case to the European Court of Justice for a ruling.

    Today's report shows that they don't need to.

    Would you care to expand on that comment? Are you suggesting that the current 'troubles' of the church was caused by homosexuals, qua homosexuals?
