    Intel make approx 500 redundant

Talking to a friend of mine who works in Social Welfare and he says that between 450-500 workers at intel have been let go. There is very little on the news about this. It started right away after Lisbon was passed. Was not their CEO one of the Champions of the yes vote, he never mentioned any of these reduncancies before the vote. Yes for jobs!!! give me a break.

It was talked about in the media when the losses were announced much earlier in the year. It was talked about when the cuts themselves began. It was discussed here in multiple threads.

    Breaking news!

250 manufacturing jobs to go in Sligo

RTÉ News: 250 jobs to go at Sligo medical firm

It really upsets me to see these jobs go.

you seem to take for granted the thousands of jobs that are already there.
intel are a huge employer and very generous to their staff.
we are very lucky to have the likes of intel still here and employing so many
i am sure it would save them millions if they were to move overseas

It was announced that 300 jobs may go I think during the summer but the figures are actually higher. And my friend said that from what he hears from the people made redundant its going to be higher again.
I am not taking anything for granted but I think we should watch that space.

    Thanks for that.

There was a guy (Joe Power?) on VB last night said we will get out of this recession by our exports and he mentioned how well pharmaceutical companies were performing in the export market !

Mpderators, this has nothing to do with the Lisbon Treaty. Wrong forum.

Intel makes up a disturbingly high proportion of our GDP.

It has got alot to do with Lisbon. We were told to vote yes to jobs and it seems there are never ending reports of job losses.
Intel CEO told us to vote yes as it is vital to our economy and he also said that Intel wanted to be in a country who kept its good reputation on the European front. Well we did that and now the same CEO is letting go more staff than had been said and there seems to be more to come. He was part of the charge for a yes vote but now his company are doing exactly the opposite as what we were told a yes vote would do.
