Vatican Radio:German politicians ask Vatican to 'support Lisbon Treaty' in Ireland

    Pressure on the Vatican
But doubts persist as to whether the Irish will go along with the wishes of the EU core states and approve the Lisbon Treaty in the re-run referendum. Berlin is therefore intensifying its direct pressure. Most recently, the President of the European Parliament, Hans-Gert Poettering (German CDU) visited Dublin to seek - together with Irish parliamentarians - an approach for a retroactive correction of the Irish majority decision. Poettering also intervened at a conference of Irish Bishops. This is very significant because the Catholic Church enjoys wide influence in Ireland. "The EU is applying pressure on Irish Bishops" reported Radio Vatican with rare candor thereafter. The clergy is being asked to "support the EU Lisbon Treaty." Radio Vatican reported that the CDU politician is hoping that "if the treaty is put to the vote again in the Irish Republic, this time it could suffice for a 'Yes,' thanks to the support of the church."[3]
I'm flabbergasted by this!! It looks like Ireland is no longer independent!! I wonder what Monsignor Hugh O' Flaherty would say if he were alive today.

People of Germany, wake up, it's not right for larger countries to bully smaller countries. Your politicians have lied to you about the Lisbon Treaty. They said it didn't interfere with German laws, this was wrong. The Lisbon Treaty is a charter for larger European countries to bully smaller European countries in the future. The referendum in Ireland is not fair, Irish people are being bullied by the other European governments to vote 'Yes'. The Irish media is totally biased in favour of the Lisbon Treaty. 95% of Irish politicians are in favour of the Lisbon Treaty, they are too afraid to come out against it. Ask questions of your politicians of the the unfair referendum campaign in Ireland. The 'Yes' side are outspending the 'No' side by 10 to 1

That is so insulting. It's not like we asked David Hasselhoff to tell the Germans to lay off.

I should hope he would welcome the fact that the great work that he carried out during WWII would never need to be repeated - all thanks to the EU.

    Hugh O'Flaherty would vote YES!

The Catholic church in Ireland always knew which side their bread was buttered on.

The RCC in Ireland have historically sided with the rich and powerful over the people of Ireland. Examples are -

The ITGWU and the Dublin Lock-out of 1913

RTÉ Radio 1 to air documetary about historical Arigna miner strikes

If the Vatican call for a Yes vote, it's done and dusted for the No side.
