Ireland is the appendix of Europe, a small and rather useless organ which, if it swells up and causes pain, can be excised without fuss.

And apart from 'My Little Pony' hearts all over the place, what is your actual alternative to the EU as per Lisbon?

I see much for the Lisbon treaty, and I see much against it.

But as an Irishman very familiar with the history of these islands in the twentieth century I'll say one thing:

UKIP and Cóir on the same side of ANYTHING is the most obviously gangrenous idea since the Soviet-German pact.

Sincere, intelligent opponents of the Lisbon treaty must realise that both groups are leeches who wish to take us all back to very dark times indeed. Cóir would be patrolling Ryanair flights looking for anyone who might seem to them to be going to England for immoral purposes; at the other end of the flight, UKIP's agents would (once they've cleared out Blacks and Asians) be checking for anyone who looked like a Paddy.

    Get real, people!

To the extent that such sincere, intelligent opponents of the Lisbon treaty welcome the support of these hate-filled, pustulescent groups, whose entire being is focussed on hatred of the new, the different, the challenging and the very idea of progress, they should be ashamed.

    But clearly they are not.

This, rather than any other single factor, has made up my mind.

Lie down with dogs and get up with fleas.

Lie down with religious or racist Nazis and get up excusing Birkenau and Artane.

    Nein effing danke.

Ain't that funny. Remember that Hans Christian Seebohm quote from a while back...?
Does free Europe want to join Germany? Germany is the heart of Europe, and the limbs must adjust themselves to the heart, not the heart to the limbs.
    So there.
