Down to the wire on German ratification of Lisbon.

The Bundestag has passed legislation with 494 votes in favour, 46 against and two abstentions in accordance with the German Constitutional Courts ruling.

The upper house is to vote on the 18th of Sept in a race against time before national elections take place. I had read earlier that there were more challenges waiting to be heard in the event that the legislation was insufficient with the courts ruling.

    From the BBC item

The changes should give parliament a bigger say over EU matters that concern Germany. The country's Constitutional Court called for these changes in June.

The legislation approved on Tuesday will give German MPs a vote on any changes to the Lisbon Treaty, or any expansion of EU competencies that impacts on German sovereignty.
