It was used to undermine the O'Bradaigh/O'Conaill leadership by Adams and Morrisson...that was the only reason it was dropped...if you re-adopt it it just proves what they were at.Originally Posted by rockofcashel

Pure Rubish, the Eire Nua policy was abandoned by Sinn Fein because the vast majority of the membership thought it was un-workable, so they voted at an Ard Fheis to drop it.Originally Posted by bonty
The so-called undermining of the O'Bradaigh/O'Conaill leadership was done by themselves during the mid 70's when they where involved in negiotations with the Brits, and they were prepared to accept a deal in which those two were prepared to abandon abstentionism to Stormont, and call off the IRA campaign in exchange for a deal that the Brits wouldn't even commit to paper, and whilst the brits strung them along they were preparing a massive crack-down of the Republican Movement. Thats what undermined them.
They weren't the only people around then. Belfast-man Seamus Twomey was C/S at the time; the Army Council had a majority Northern membership; and who were the O/C's of the important Belfast and Derry Brigades? The 1975 Truce was carried out with their support and understanding and they must carry some of the responsibility for what became of it.Originally Posted by padraig
