Issues for Local elections in Meath

Here is a link I got this morning to an interview with Sinn Féin Cllr Peadar Tóibín on what are the issues in the local elections in Meath.

Its hard to believe that none of the establishment parties have ever highlighted that fact that Meath is getting such a bum deal!!

    Toibin Interview

Cllr Toibin is always excellent on this kind of stuff, he could run rings around other parties. It there is any justice at all Peadar will rightfully get his place on Meath Co Co. Meath needs more people as informed and as articulate as him.

I agree to be honest. This is the leadership we need.
If he doesn't get my number one he will get my number two.

This looks like a man throwing down the gauntlet for the next General Election. Joe O'Reilly is a nice man but he has run 7 times for the Dail (6 Generals and 1 bye-election) and failed everytime. So perhaps it is time to give someone else a go....wonder though if Joe would go quietly. If Tobin does well here he will probably be imposed for the General over Joe's head.

However Peader will have to do more than this to get elected in Meath West as a TD, Joe has been banging on about this stuff for years!

SF may be active in Meath West, but they are obviously very weak in Meath East. They ditched their Meath East General Election candidate who actually lives in the area Joanne Finnegan for a woman who doesn't (Sinead Burke) for the locals in Slane. Now Finnegan is runnning as an Independent. Love to know what happened there!

In the Dunshaughlin area they are running Michael Gallagher's son. He is from Drumconrath in North Meath which is about 50 miles from Dunshaughlin, looks very bad, even local supporters are not very impressed by such decisions from Belfast.

Cllr Joe Reilly is extremely well respected and well thought of in Meath. He is also one of the hardest working and shrewdest public reps in the county. I reckon there is another election or two in him at least.

Stonethrower, I wouldn’t write off Sinéad Burke.

There are few members of Meath Sinn Féin that have worked harder and longer, have been more committed to Republicanism and have worked as well as a team player than Sinéad.

She is also more articulate and principled than any of her former or current competitors.

I reckon she is in with a shout for a the last seat in the Slane area. Defo one to watch for the future!

Its quite obvious ''what happened there''. Sinead Burke was selected over Joanne Finnegan. I believe Sinead will serve the people very well. She isn't in it for herself. I have met her and reckon she is very genuine with a clear head. I wish her luck, pity I can't give her a vote.

    Peader Toibin

That link is very very impressive. Peader delivers a fantastic interview and the content of his points are a real eye opener. As a Meath person I believe it is now high time we make sure we re elect this new breed of politican to our councils. I found that interview more insightful than any I have heard from any politician in a long long time.
