    laois elections predictions for june

alas the other thread has become clogged up with personal clashes so, those involved please remain there and leave this thread to election predictions only.

as of now this is my read on the areas

    borris
eddie kirwan has pulled out of the race. 5 of the 6 seats are done deals. 3fg 2ff. word is that phelan the 3rd ff is toast, so that leaves the 6th seat between labours fiztpatrick and fg king, both from rathdowney, the latter is the more popular in the area, although it will be take a clinical voting strategy for fg to win 4/4......so 3fg, 2ff and a.n.other

    emo
the battle of all battles....cribben and deegan for sure, no chance mcevoy whatsoever as only 1ff will return. after that any of 4 for the other 2 seats, given the history of the area as pro pd, mitchell may scramble home and anyone except ff for the 4th seat.

    portlaois
3 and only 3 for fg. stanley and jacob. lodge the number one for ff. the last seat is between the 2nd ffer Fitzgerald and O Brien of Labour. I doubt if the nigerian will figure. i would call it a 2nd for ff as long as internal fighting does not lead to a self destruct.

    luggacurran
    non event. 2ff 2fg

    tinnahinch
2ff, 1fg and the final seat lost by the ff genepool to either the 2nd fger or Bowe of Labour.

in the east Euro election. 2fg and 1ff will be the result.

Paddy Buggy will poll very well for FG in Portlaoise. Aird will get in but Buggy will hurt him, It is surprising that Keegan is being dismissed, true FG will only get 3 seats but it will be a three way FG battle for the third seat.
My Call , Stanley , Aird, Jacob, Lodge, Sweeney,
now it gets interesting, two seats among five credible canditates.
Fitzgerald O'Brien (FG,) O'Brien (Lab), Buggy, Keegan,
Call the last two seats at your peril.

Ah midlands politics! The usual shower of gombeens from FF and FG to be elected. What is it about the poorer contituencies? They always elect the people who screw them over.

I'd agree with the prediction for SF we can expect big gains for them I'd imagine, anyone notice that Brian Stanley seems to be getting an awful lot of coverage in the express?

I dont know about big gains, but they will make gains in laois on june 5th.

Stanleys coverage in the local media in Laois is probably more than you would expect considering SF have only 1 seat out of 25.
It stems from his work rate as a councillor which far exceeds any other member of the CC.

Even his political opponents would agree.Thats why the press give him a good hearing.I think they acknowledge he works hard and takes his job as a public servant serious.

he is a full time councillor and in general alot is expected from you as a SF councillor from within the party.

he will top the poll in Portlaoise CC and TC because of his workrate. For the good of laois i hope all other councillors are the same.

Okay big gains might be a bit of an exaggeration but I think if things continue as they are and Sinn Fein play their cards right they could more than possibly turn councilor stanley into TD Stanley whenever the next general election comes.
