    Clara Relief road

Just wondering what people think of the proposed 'relief road' for clara. Seems like an awful waste of money in these hard times when people jobs and homes being lost, essential services being cut real pain and suffering out there. anger too. and this a road that there is no need for. Will only cause problems and is an example of bad planning at its worst. 'relief road' will go through residential areas, pass the local secondary school, the library, the community swimming pool, the new interpretative centre, the only playground in the town...its sheer madness and will create havoc on the ferbane road and there no need for it at all. Reality is volume of traffic falling in Clara, has been since the motorway opened and will fall again when Tullamore bypass opens. Madness. Should never have got the go ahead but typical of bad planning and unnecessary public expense in this country. I find it embarrassing as a local that it is going ahead when there is obviously no need for it. And the traffic 'problem'(such as it is) in clara will not be helped by this waste. Only parking restictions on river street will sort that one because it has nothing to do with the volume of traffic. Embarrasing and in the taoiseach's hometown too

I know one Clara poster who might have a comment to make. A waste of money in my opinion. I wouldn't have thought many Clara was on a major road network.

Speaking of the Tullamore bypass. That has to be the worst bypass ever. You are still 10 mins quicker flying up the main street

Are details of this route available on the Web?

Best bypass in that area is Tubber. *****Always laugh when *****I see the "please drive carefully through our village" sign when you cannot even see Tubber from the mai road.

I dont really see the need for it, but then I have not lived there in some time. Given that it is only going to be 850 metres long, as money goes it is probably not the biggest waste. Of course it is likely to create some jobs and be cheaper during these tough times.

Will only cause problems and is an example of bad planning at its worst.
Oh, there is a lot worse in Ireland.

'relief road' will go through residential areas,
    Which residential areas?

pass the local secondary school, the library, the community swimming pool, the new interpretative centre, the only playground in the town...its sheer madness and will create havoc on the ferbane road and there no need for it at all.
Talk about misrepresentation. The main Tullamore - Ferbane route already goes that way. There are already large quantities of traffic taking that route.

Reality is volume of traffic falling in Clara, has been since the motorway opened and will fall again when Tullamore bypass opens.
Not by a lot from what I hear.

Madness. Should never have got the go ahead but typical of bad planning and unnecessary public expense in this country.
I would love to see what the justification for it is.

I find it embarrassing as a local that it is going ahead when there is obviously no need for it.
What is your evidence for stating that there is no need. I cannot see one, but that does not mean that there is not one.

And the traffic 'problem'(such as it is) in clara will not be helped by this waste.
So taking traffic, which does not need to go into the town, around the town, will not help traffic in the town. How do you work that out?

And one minute you are saying that there is no need for a relief road, and that traffic has reduced since the motorway came on line, now you are saying that Clara has a traffic problem. Make your bloody mind up.

Only parking restictions on river street will sort that one because it has nothing to do with the volume of traffic.
It would be helpful, but considering that there are a number of residents and businesses on River Street, perhaps you can tell me where they are going to park. Where are the wonderful parking facilities?

Embarrasing and in the taoiseach's hometown too

Newsflash - Brian has lived in Tullamore for quiet some time now. Clara is his native town, not his home town.

Given the drivel you have posted, I would say he is only embarrassed by the fact that he originates from the same town as yourself.

If it makes you feel better we will pretend that it is in Dublin.

I don't want fcking roads in Dublin either.

Finish the intercity motorways and get straight back onto Public transport. Clara is a small wee village no one would have heard of without Brian Cowen or the fact that the DUblin-Galway train baits through it and sometimes stops. Relief Road my hole!!!!

Any chance of some facts, it is not village.

I reckon people who live there would have heard it. Now I know this might be tough for a Dub to understand but the road is not meant to serve Dublin. So it does not matter if Dubs have heard of it.

    Relief Road my hole!!!!
Have you enough traffic going up your hole to justify a relief road?

fine there's 3500 people there. Hardly Tullamore or Galway now is it. If every resident had their own car and every one of them drove through the main street - half in each direction and no other traffic - it would still be freeflow. By definition. Why relieve that scenario

What has any of this to do with Dublin? You mentioned it first not me. Dublin is your capital, the driver of all the capital still left in your country. But just to win another regional balance/planning/transport debate - it's parish pump nonsense schemes like this that have contributed to the recession as small things like Dublin Airport and Metro have to compete with them for funds. Dublin and by extension Ireland have suffered for a few hundred votes in small town Ireland

Have you enough traffic going up your hole to justify a relief road?
My congestion is none of your business

Now i ain't an expert on Clara but i'm gonna assume the level of through traffic ain't that huge - Is there monster traffic from Moate to Tullamore or Athlone to Portlaoise?

All I know is we're broke and we have shrinking public transport services in our economic drivers (cities) so why the fook would we waste a red cent on sh1te like this is beyond me

    oh yeh Biffo's from there....

What;s next - Offaly international airport - oh sh1t yeh, 3 of them have been proposed since Briany took over....
