Was talking to a senior Fianna Fail figure on the canvas today who told me that the party had conducted a private poll which showed Noel Bourke, John Foley and Eddie Fitzpatrick all getting in on the first count, while Quinn and Leddin were going no-where. I doubt there was a poll, but any comment regardless?
Only goes to show that not all the Fianna Fail liars are members of dail eirann.

I can tell you that in Laois FF are not getting it as bad on the doors as people think.

Ther will be no wipe our for them in Laois. They will struggle a bit more in the count than they would be used to but will hold on to most of what they have.

I mention this here as Laois and Offaly are normally very close when it comes to support for FF.

Fianna Fail can hold the two seats in North Offaly. But the party has a serious fight on its hands. It's not certain that Bourke can get in on the first count what with all the candidates running in the town, each will take at least 200-300 votes between family, friends and contacts etc. His vote will be well down in Clonbullogue and Foley won't get much in Rhode or beyond. If not in on the first count Bourke will certainly be elected early on. Either way this will leave little or no surplus for Foley who will play second fiddle to Bourke regardless of all his good deeds in the area. He will have to fight hard to ensure that the preferences of the weaker candidates in the town come to him if he is to be elected. Leddin is going to give Foley a serious run for the seat.

I have canvassed a good bit of the area up there and I think Quinn should pull it off against Fox. Doolan's name wasn't been mentioned much at all. Foran will hang on to his seat in my opinion.

If Fitzpatrick doesn't take a seat I'll be very surprised, can't for the life of me see who's fit to take it off him. Apart from his own area where he's been working hard, he's done a good canvas of Geashill which is just up the road from him. The boundary changes certainly suited him.

The last seat, well who knows? the transfer battle will be emence and the count will go on for a long time. I hope to be in with a shout, but you can never tell in an election.

I also think it is bad form to provide commentary on an election when you have not admitted that you are a candidate.
Just read the offaly independent, on page 20 of the list of candidates edenderry electoral area it has stephen mather as FF, obviously a typo mistake as stephen is running as an independent. Would people agree here that a high percentage of independent candidates are running independent because they weren't selected for the Fianna Fail ticket and if elected will back FF policies at council level ahead of the people that elected them?

Now do not be hiding Quiet man, tell us what you think.

I will be home on Sunday for the week so that I can vote. Will respond to your account then.

I think Jo Jo is also from the Clara area, perhaps he could offer us his opinion on the Clara situation.

I know its a bit hypocritical of me to have a laugh at the expence of my former party, but!

His comments on the private poll reminded me of Comical Ali at the fall of Bagdad during the Iraq war, "there are no enemy forces anywhere near our glorious capital, Iraq will never be defeated!". As one very large Abrams tank rolls into camera shot at the other end of the street.
