A week is a long time in politics! And four months is an eternity! Just look at what happened in the 24 hrs after the Dublin Chamber of Commerce speech, as an example!

Two opinions, which will never see eye to eye. We simply won't know which opinion is the correct one until the day of the count. I'm sticking to my guns on this one!

Who has been selected to run for the parties in Offaly at this stage?

According to their websites, Jack Deegan, John Foran, Nichola Hogan and Liam Quinn are running for FG in Edenderry and Marcella Corcoran Kennedy, Connie Hannify and Tom Rigney are running for FG in Ferbane, while Mary Kiely is the LAB candidate in Ferbane.

John Foley will be running with sitting Councillor Noel Bourke for a place on Offaly C.C. in Edenderry Town, Declan Leddin is running for both Town and County councils as a Labour candidate and Fergus McDonnell will run as an independent.

Its obvious Bourke and Foley will have to be on the ticket. Question is how will they split up Edenderry between them for canvassing and who will be on the ticket with them?

taking both Foley and Bourke huge vote pulling power and the fact that Killally has indicated he is not running, there will have to be a third FF candidate in Edenderry Town, most likely Noel Cribbin, realistic chance of pulling 3 seats out of the town!!!

Not a hope of a third candidate being run in Edenderry Town! The numbers from the last Local Election barely justify two.

All other candidates will be from outside Edenderry. Grassroots are asking for 4 while some are saying that there might only be 3 on the ticket?

There's more to the Edenderry L.E.A. than Edenderry Town!

God that annoys me, where is the population? Edenderry Town, The town elected 3 councillors the last time with Bourke, McDonnell and most of Killallys vote coming from the town, not to mention Liam Hogan's excellent showing???
Wake up and smell the coffee!!!!!!!!!!!
If you are a true FF'r then face facts rather than the worn out wild idea's that kilclonfert and other such area's can elect a county Councillor.
I regard my self as grassroots but unlike you would never appoint myself as a spokesperson for them.

I think you had better take a second look at the figures!

Most of Bourke's vote was personal! It came from all over North Offaly, and is due in no small part to the Trojan work he puts in.

Killally's vote came predominantly from the area stretching from Rhode to Daingean. And his General Election campaign two years previous stood him well in all boxes.

Kilclonfert is one of the lowest populated areas in North Offaly and could never support a councillor???????

Portarlington and Geashill combined have population equal to that of Edenderry Town. Do you intend to neglect this area altogether. Fergus McDonnell is sitting in a seat that normally rested in this area and it was only through luck that the transfers went his way because the Fianna Fail ticket was so poor there last time out!!!!

There were enough vote and transfers in the (old) North Offaly to elect one Fine Gael councillor between Clonbullogue and Edenderry Town. John Foran's the man at the moment, any change will be within F.G. and will not benifit us at all.

I think someone needs to change the filter in their coffee maker, because there is absolutly no justication for a third Fianna Fail candidate in Edenderry Town!!!!! And judgeing by your comments above you havn't been within an asses roar of the grass roots outside of Edenderry Town in quite a while!

Obviously like myself you have very strong opinions on this matter, so I think we will have to agree to disagree.I will leave you with this suggestion,Fergus McDonnell, Noel Bourke, Liam Hogan and a lot of Ger Killally's votes got 3 Councillors elected last time. The reason the constituency has increased from 5 to 6 seats is due in the main to the population increase in Edenderry town. Tom Nolan's poor showing at the last Local election and the poor response to John Foley's general election campaign from North Portarlington suggests to me that this area is no longer a Fianna Fail stronghold for whatever reason! (just a suggestion)
Edenderry Town has been and remains a serious Fianna Fail bastion.
Most of the Town electorate look down the ballot paper and vote 1 and 2 for the nearest Fianna Fail candidates to the town. They then, as was the case with Fergus McDonnell and Liam Hogan, vote for the local town candidates.
    These are the facts.
John Foley and Noel Bourke will be elected on the first count, Stephen Mather and whoever the party chooses from the rhode area are unknowns in Edenderry so will not poll well. This is why in my opinion Fianna Fail must run a 3rd person in the town.
I genuinely have no problem with people running from anywhere they want to, as is their democratic right but Edenderry can and will if allowed win 3 FF seats in Edenderry.
Why not as I heard was suggested at a FF meeting sometime ago, run 5 people and satisfy all opinions?
