With only weeks to go has anyone a prediction on strong/ weak candidates for mountmellick town council. Who do we think will take the 9 seats? Anyone bold enough to stick their neck out? Who is running, and what are there profiles like???

It will be interesting to see how Rosemary Whelan polls in the Mountmellick area for the CC, as it's a big jump from needing 50 votes to needing a minimum of 1200.

FF have been very strong in Mountmellick for years, both town and county council. I think they've held 6 out of 9 since 1994.

I think she will do well she got 100 1st pref votes on town council last time out. with paddy buggy running in portlaoise she will pick up his FG vote and she has a relative running against her in mountmellick too and will pick up alot of his transfers
apart from bracken and Delaney she has been the most active of town councilors over the last 5 yrs and the clinics she runs are usually well attended.

I've yet to see Ron Lalor at a GAA match...you must be getting mixed up between the GAA and table quizzes!

But other than that not a bad prediction. I wouldn't rule out Michael Moloney tho...

Is it STILL unannounced as to where he's running?? He better make his mind up soon because the longer he leaves it the bigger the chance he'll be chastised at the ballot box.

The people of Mountmellick will punish him if he doesn't run in the Mountmellick electoral area for at least the tc or the cc. He shoudn't rely to heavily on their loyalty to the Moloney name...neither he nor his brother has done much to deserve it - the loyalty that is!!

Ah that makes more sense. There was talk on this thread of him running in portlaoise which I found difficult to understand for obvious reasons.

As regards your predicted outcome - do you think Marc Connolly will lose his seat? He'll find it hard to get back in but I think he might scrape it.

You have FG as winning 4 seats - this is very possible but the only reservation I'd have is the fact that Bobby Delaney and Ollie Payne are nextdoor neighbours. They'd by and large be looking for votes from the same patch with a few exceptions...i.e. that Ollie would be looking for the GAA vote.

That could turn ugly as regards disputes and tension between the two, not to mention that there could end up being a split vote - which would do more harm than good to FG's natural advantage.
