Lottie urgently needs a reality check, GAA pitches , potholes etc is the bread and butter of local politics , if you feel that this is beneath you, then you are in big trouble.
This is typical FG , being above their station in life. Being a county councillor dosen't give you power to change the world, you are a glorified gofor. If you dont like that, run for the Dail instead. The electorate are more perceptive than you give them credit for.
As Regards introducing Maslow Hierarchy of needs, it wont bring you many votes in St Brigids Sq..

    Lottie

Thats why Ms Halford was not Selected by HQ because her head is up in the air and she has no clue about local issues.
The selection of the best canidate came down to a number of issues which Halford did not tick the boxes required for the job and if swingdoor is right about Cox well best of luck to her.
I am hearing good things about her and I believe she is involved in the community in Port and most importantly she is a local.
So Lottie when you come down from your High Horse and continue to remind us of your vast Political experience and not to mention your qualifications will you support Cox or will you go into an independant campagin with your so called Hero Ms Halford.
I do think FG may be capable of getting 2 seats and remember this Lottie FG HQ were think of Transfers form either Mulhall or Cox to return for 2nd FG Seat and Ms Halford would have got it very hard to get 100 votes.
This would mean her vote would make no impact on the helping to gain the second seat.
Deegan is snug enough with Stradbally/Vicarstown to return him over the Line
So Lottie this what it comes down to you put your best team out on the day.

A lot of people I talk to are saying that J.Deegan is not the certainty many are thinking, and that includes the Stradbally area. There are no sure things this time around with so many variables in the mix i.e. economy, anger with FF, newcomers to areas, young voters who are experiencing a recession for the first time etc. etc.
I don't see why the issue of whether G. Halford is selected or not is exercising one or two contributors so much, although if she is as good as Lottie claims she should be running in the EU Elections!

Reality check! Stop anyone in the street at the moment, and ask them what worries them the most. Everyone I speak to is worried that the country is going to hell in a handcart. They are disillusioned with government, and this includes local government. If County Councillors continue to see themselves merely as 'glorified gofors' then they should get out. Personally, I want inspirational leaders. The people of St. Brigids Square, most of whom I know personally, seek the same. We all seek leaders who actually believe that they can 'change the world'

God protect your innocence if you think that you will change the world by becoming a member of Laois Co. Council.
Obviously you have never checked to see what the powers of a MCC are.

The public want change no doubt. but if you try to stuff them about changing the world from James Fintan Lalor Ave. they will see through that one pretty quickly, one has to give them some credit, but it would be a nice try.

Innocence it might be, but I would still like to believe that some Councillors deal in altruism rather than self service. These are the kind I want

I would love to know will you support the candidate deemed the most suitable by HQ. In other words, will you support the party? You have not answered this question Lottie. I always thought Ms Halford had ambitions to stand in the Borris LEA.

Real King: With regards to W. Cox you claim she is "involved in the community in Port". I would like to hear some details of this involvement as I am very familiar with the town and don't know of any activities she is involved in or any achievements locally. At a community level she is as much of an unknown as G. Halford who is a total stranger to most Port people.

    Bystander

Well Bystander you are not that Fimilar with the area as you think I am from the Rural Emo Area and what part of the area do you hail from?
W Cox is from Port and Invoved in the Local organisations Community Alert, Town Forum, Leisure Centre to name a few.
Thats what I know about her and she may be capable of getting a vote that may impact on the stronger canidates in port.
There are about 11 declared canidates in the EMO LEA

    3 FF
    3 FF
    3 Ind (Maybe 1 More)
    1 Lab
    1 SF

Now who will impact in specfic areas you are looking at Port based and Stradbally based canidates bearing in mind 60:40 Port:Strad Divid on the votes
From the 11 canidates 3 are based in Stradbally, 1 in the Middle Emo and 7 in Port.
This will put a huge spread on votes and some of the big players will be down, the key is transfers
The soliders will poll well despite the swing against them but they may remain stagnate because they fall to secure a high transfer ratio.
The Blueshirts are looking to improve their vote they will get it tough but do tend to capitalise on Transfers from others.
There are two very strong indepentants in Port which they could end up cancelling each other out.
Labour and SF will not have enough to get either one home.
So in summary I believe 1 canidate will be returned from Strad area and the remaining 3 will be returned in port as follows

    1 Deegan
    2 Cribben
    3 Emerson
    4 Toss up Murphy/Mullhall/Cox/Mitchell
