agree Will. Deegan will top the poll in Portarlington. In the locals people are inclined to vote for people they know. Personal votes can cross party lines occasionaly. But no matter how good or capable you are you have to be known or have connections to the area i.e. family.

What utter rubbish Vista. Fine Gael Portarlington conducted straw Poll. Small sample n100. Of these, only 5 could name a County Councillor other than Ray Cribbin. They didn't even mention Paul Mitchell who is actually from the town.

Ah for the love of God Lottie. A hundred people possibly could live in the one area.
Dont get cross. We are all entitled to our opinion. I have been observing local elections for many years and many hold the same opinion. Good luck to your candidate anyway.

Just heard... from my people in FG HQ...
After, you know who, threw a tantrum, they decided to hold fire on announcing the "appointed one".
Reasoning is, with just 8 weeks to go, they will delay naming her majesty for as long as possible, to deny her the opportunity to mount any type of campaign.
She might have got her way within the party with her chilish antics but the party has put a hault to her gallop to teach the inexpericed polictial a lesson, she'll never forget.
Amateurs have no place in local elections or local politics and this novice can’t do a dammed thing about it. Thanks be to God.
What now Halford? Let rip without HQ sauntion or wait until it's too late? Either way, you're up the creek without a paddle.

Get real SW. Since when did FG. HQ. work all night? Know them myself and that has never been the case, and certainly isn,t on this occasion. The facts remain the same. If the Emo District Convention had gone to a vote, Halford would have topped the poll. There was no 'hissy fit' from Halford. General disquiet was expressed by delegates and the matter is now with HQ. It is not unusual for strong, viable candidates to enjender jealousy. Why are so many exercised by Halfords candidature? The answer is obvious.

Just back from a Port visit.
My people over there are telling me she of the caked makeup has certainly pi**ed off local FG hacks who have swore they will not do an ounce of canvass for glamour puss.
Seemingly she’s going around to all and sundry, catching them unawares and telling them how great a person she is and, listen to this one, claiming to have “vast political experience.”
A recent poll conducted by FF among 100 people in the Emo LEA has only four people saying they even heard of her. 1 of those saying they will vote for her, if on the ticket. (Must have been Lottie they called to on that one). Maybe the reason why people have tuned out to her is because of the condescending way she talks down to people.
If they only knew her background…..
    Pathetic or what?
Anyone else hear about this FF survey?

The only straw poll conducted was by FG. Port., who are 100% behind Halford. Far from being pi##ed off Halford, they have had campaign strategy in place for some time. Someone is leading you up the garden path!

No, but heard the soldiers of destiny over in port are privately worried about the impact Aidan Mullins will have.

Oh Dear, poor Lottie, ye of little political astuteness.
Just goes to show your naivety and lack of research when its comes to political parties in the Emo LEA.
The Shinners and FF have actually carried out polls. And indeed so did Francis Emerson.
So much for your “they (FG) have had campaign strategy in place for some time.”
Did your so-called “campaign strategy” foresee, four people scrapping over one “appointment”? And one of them stamping their feet and demanding she be put on the ticket. Yeah, some campaign strategy alright.
Ah well, we’ll just have to wait for another one of your bobos to have another laugh at your political naivety.

OK SD, I suppose 35 years with Degree and Masters (Thesis on local Politics) and vast experience on the ground, counts for little with you. Having grown up in Portarlington, and reared my family there, I would venture to claim a little local knowledge. The upcoming local elections are without precedent. Simple, Parish Pump Politics, are now of the past. The population demographic has altered beyond recognition. The current fiscal crisis has forced very many people to reassess their priorities. Could I refer you to Maslovs 'Hierarchy of Needs'. Before people can become exercised by issues such as a united Ireland, GAA pitches, or even potholes, they need to feel assured that they will have a job, a roof over their head, means to raise their children etc. For this, they require leaders in whom they can have trust. I don't know about you, but I want better than we have had in the past.
