Don't forget Fianna Fail are selecting all of our candidates by interview. There are no conventions at all and therefore the grassroots don't get a say.

You only have to do three things to get onto the party ticket for the Local Elections this year.

    (1) - Convince the three goons sent by H.Q. (from well outside the area) that your the man for the ticket.

    (2) - Be well in with the Comhairle Dailcheantair, who's views are sought by the interview board on the local situation. (Joe is the Chair of this body)

    (3) - Get the nod from the local T.D. (Mountmellick based) who will be consulted by the National Constituencies Committee when making their descision using the recomendations of the interview board.

yeah, I know that TransSiberian - my comments were solely focused on the county council contests - and really only dire vote management will prevent SF winning two seats in the town council contest. This of course would be bad news for O'Brien as you note as he can't rely on winning much in the way of transfers from the Stanley surplus - at least not to the extent as he might in the county council contest.

She's sure of one vote, and that's Lottie's vote.
Now all she has to do is dig out another 999.
Sorry, 998, seeing that Lottie knows only one Laurie also living in the area
Are you seriously that dim, or is this just your on-line persona?

Back in the Local Elections of 1974, (if my memory serves me correctly) a married guy stood for the Town Commission (as it was then) elections in New Ross and received a total of 1 vote.

I always reckoned that the poor suffering wife expected that he would have got at least a handfull of votes and decided she would have no problem in not voting for the other half without any fallout!

Just checked ElectionsIreland, no sign of it there...

To the Annals of New Ross!

Well Councillor Moloney history might well just about be repeated in the Emo area with Halford, not even on the voting register.

In the united states in the 70's a guy only received one vote. A reporter asked his wife did she not vote , she said that she knew he didn't stand a chance , so no point..........The headlines in the local rag , rang out the following week, "ONE MAN ONE VOTE"

I have been informed on good authority that Grace H will not be getting the nod from FG.

Also Pat Delaney will be standing as an Independent-FG in the Mountmellick LA.

Willie Aird was telling me that in his reckoning that the swing against FF will see many FFers voting for Labour irrespective of knowing Jim O'Brien or not and he see's him in with a good chance. I am of the same opinion, and I believe a second factor will be that there is likely to be an increase in turnout this time from the newer voters in Portlaoise. Many who did not bother to vote in 2004 or 07 will be making it there business to go out to vote against the Gov.

So. Can we then take it that if the swing againt FF means every FFer will be calling it a protest vote. Similair to the calls they make when the shinners reap rewards, or the No campaign comes out on top.

    What now Lottie?
No where to run. No where to hide.
Unless............. God Forbid, your hero, Halford decides to go on a solo run, with no party backing and no known financial stream of income.
