You believe that there won't be any Fianna Fail councillors left standing after the election due the the recent opinion polls. And your entitled to that opinion!

The only solution to see which one of us is right is to wait until June 5th!
In many cases in laois FF councillors will be returned where the opposition is weak. This opposition shoul really be going for the kill.

Now no-one is paying attention to you on the Offaly thread so you have to look for attention on the Laois one.Stick to the Offaly locals as you add nothing to the debate on the laois locals.

The quota in EMO will be about 1100 votes do you think you can achieve that vote and not being a native of Port????????
These are the question the blueshirts will have to ask of you in order to get on there ticket.
And if you are so brilliant as Lottie has protrayed you do you think that FG would have selected you at the Convention???
Oh sorry Grace I meant Lottie.
Your highness, or maybe you would prefer, your majesty! Perhaps you are a little confused. I am Lottie, not Grace, ok? I am the mother of adult children and as far as I know Grace Halford is single and childless. We are alike in the sense that we are both highly intelligent and extremely well educated, but there our similarities end. My area of expertise is the Sciences and Politics and Graces are well documented and obviously different. As for your comment about Grace not being a Port. woman by birth, well as someone who was born and reared in Port. might I point out that half the current population was not born there.

This tread has decended into junk from the cut and trust of some months ago. I suggest Write about anything, party politics, political infighting, individual stands by candidates on issues and policies or lack of, but lets make it a worth while tread for all.

Did anyone see the headline of the Nationalist this week?
Seems that FF are all over the place and it's like everyone is out for themselves.
But I suppose there's nothing new in that apprach from FF'ers.
Sure wasn't Michael Moloney the first to jump ship when he didn't get his own way.

If as you state your hero Halford is as "highly intelligent and extremely well educated" as you say she is, why then did dhe take a decision to leave a successful newpaper and take up a job with a paper everyone knew was not going to last?
Clearly that shows a lack of judgment and a lack of research.
If that judment was flawed, one now has to question her judgement to stand on a FG ticket in an area she has just moved into.

    That's telling you, Effin Effer.
The reason why no one is paying you much attention is beause you have failed, like your party, to explain, how the local economy in Offaly is not affected by national policies. How are local FF councillors going to explain at local level why potholes are not beiong repaired and why so many people are left lying on hospital trollies in Tullamore Hospital? Why swimming pools are not been built in local areas? Why children have to go to school in prefabs? Why local schools in Offaly are losing support teachers? Why the house-waiting lists are getting longer in Offaly?
So Effin Effer, in an attempt to restore any political credibility you thought you might have had, you've got another opportunity to tell us here on the thread why the national economy won't affect FF candidates as they knock on people's doors begging for votes?
And please for the Umpteened time, don't try to bury the issues under the sand and hope they'll go away.

I cannot comment on Grace Halfords qualities or otherwise as I don't know the lady, but as a Portarlington resident I have to say she is anonymous in this area. She is totally unknown.
Lottie, along with being "highly intelligent and extremely well educated" it's a pity that you didn't gain a little humility to go with it! Those two attributes alone do not automatically make a person a good public representative. They also need to have a sense of fairness, be honest and hardworking, trustworthy, have a sense of public duty and maybe a track record in community work. Plenty of our politicians are highly intelligent etc but are total idiots as public reps.
I see that Gerry Adams was in Mountmellick and Portarlington yesterday to give a boost to Aidan Mullins, Stephen Lynch and Adam Haughtons campaigns so obviously they are taking the elections seriousy at the top of the Party. It would appear that SF are setting the pace at the moment.

Only for the fact that Sinn Fein haven't contested Emo in recent local elections, Aidan Mullins would be very well placed to make a gain this time around. But, that said, given the change in the socio-demographic make-up of the electoral area (especially in Port), the current economic climate, his longer experience in community activities in Port relative to some of the other candidates, it would still be worth putting a few bob on him to win the seat here in June, possibly even at the expense of Cribbin?

It also begs the question as to why SF in Laois are so conservative in their candidate selection strategies. It may well be a case of managing their limited financial and personnel resources, but in retrospect the decision to contest so few electoral areas in 2004 looks like having been a bad decision; as well as building up more of a support base for Stanley in 2007 it would also have given their LE candidates more of a base to fight these elections on. This time SF are contesting 4 of the 5 electoral areas: I think they are missing an opportunity in not competing in Borris in Ossory and in only running Brian Stanley in Portlaoise (he will easily top the poll with a significant surplus...which might be good news for someone like Jim O'Brien...)

BTW, Portarlington is getting very 'crowded' at the moment in terms of the amount of Port candidates now in the race: surely this will mean that Deegan will top the poll in Emo this time around?
