Did I read here that Matthew Keegan was running (local undertaker)

Yes Matthew told me the other night that he was definately standing, also going on the FG ticket is Pat Buggy. He stood for FG in 04 in the Mountmellick area and done well for his first outing. Both Matthew and Pat are competant operators.

I would be very suprised on Swingingdoor's comment that Joe Barrett will be the second SF candidate in Portlaoise.

Joe Barrett has been the powerhouse behind Stanley's election campaign's over the past few years. Normally works in the background alright. Didn't think he'd put his head up. However, the only other Dub that I know of with the Shinners is that lad Nelson that ran last time in Mountmellick.

If Joe Barrett is brave ( or stupid ) enough to put his name on the ballot paper, it will seriously jeopardize his standing as a journalist.
His articles will lack, impartiality. Can he independently report on the political aspiration of others , without his judgement or motivation being questioned.

I never thought Joe Barrett’s writing in the Laois Nationalist was impartial in the first place. He has openly written that his politician leaning have always been to the left.
He has a weekly comment piece that usually critics the Government of the day.
Joe Barrett wouldn’t be the only journalist to aspire to political life.
What about Eamon McCann, David McWilliams, Danny Morrison, David Myers or little Willie O’Dea who writes regularly in the Sunday Independent.
I agree if Barrett ran he would put his career in jeopardy.
Regarding the question of stupidity of putting ones names forward, I admire those who will run, irregardless of their party leanings. It takes guts and quite a lot of people who post on this site are just too political feeble to put their names on a ballot sheet in the first place.
I think if Barrett puts his name to the list he could rattle quite a few sitting councillors and could possibly take a town council seat.

Joe Barret wont be running for the shinners.Their convention is this week so their line up in the different areas will be public and then they really get down to the race.
it seems they will be the first to announce their selections in all areas.
Is there any advantage for parties to hold off until the last?

whatever way you look at it the shinners have gone from one candidate last time to 6 this time.So someone is putting in plcae a structure.

i do know from portlaoise that they could probably take 3 town coucil seats with the right people but they dont tend to be risk takers there.

I hear jim o brien is holding out on declaring his intentions until after the laois people of the year thing. his wife is been nominated i think.

Did i also hear that councillor Moloney might be thinking of mountmellick council area now?
Something about ff not willing to support his canvass or supply canvassers.
Surely he would be better off without their tag in the current climate!

Trans-Siberian, Two points I will make,

    1.

I have nothing to do with FF and I and they know there is and will be no discussions on any matter.

    2.

I have as yet not decided where I will be standing and the reason why the decision is delayed will be explained when I come to make my decleration. As a matter of information, a poll done in Mountmellick some weeks back had me in the first four so contrary to commentators on this site there might be some possibility of me been returned to LCC.

Murder going on inside the Portlaoise FF camp.
Organisation (what's left of it) is near collapse in the town by all accounts.
Gormley to do a solo run in Mountmellick
    Moloney is still undecided
    So what's new?

    Hey Moloney,
Who carried out that poll of yours?
    How many were surveyed?
    Who paid for the survey?
In whose house were the findings counted?
When will the findings be made public?

    And still no answers come.

    More Moloney boloney no doubt.

Ok Michael, but no matter what, people will perceive you to have that connection. It will be an advantage to anyone on the campaign trail to have no connection to FF in June.

Hence, Jerry Lodges Literature out around Christmas looks like he could be an independent. Barely anything alluding to his lifelong and uninterupted membership of FF.

In relation to Mountmellick, you know as well as anyone all polls have a certain political agenda. And you would have to admit this election campaign will look very different than anything seen in Laois before or for a long time anyway.
You and some other members of LCC have a tough batlle to retain your seats, probably the toughest of your political careers.

Murder or no murder Lodge and Fitzgerald are certs to hold on to their FF seats in Portlaoise , as both are very good MCC s
~The destination of the new seat though is up for grabs. FG don't seem to have their house in order , quite frankly they are a waste of space.and probably wont have the punch to take this extra seat. Paddy Power is probably the authority on where the extra seat will go.
Truth is stranger than fiction sometimes, apparently there was a poll conducted in Mounmellick recently , so M.Mol may well be on the button here.
However some of the results bade poorly for John Molonew TD .
Anthony Ml stated on a post that he though that John was the best Rep. in Laois. Perhaps he might give us the benefit of the criteria for this analysis.
As Johns LACK or delivery for laois seems to be more public,
Or would Michael have delivered more for the county that John. Certainly Michael would never have allowed himself to become Brian Cowens side kick.
