Former talk show host McGuire joins the race

Alan McGuire, former host of South East Radio's eponymously titled talk show, is running as an independant, having submitted his nomination papers yesterday morning.

Strangely enough, he isn't around this week as he's on a course to do with his new career in Dublin! But expect posters to appear soon, Wexford residents!

    * I am not connected to his campaign in any way.

Yes, read that in the paper yesterday. "I'm a non-candidate with a non-campaign" (or something like that), way to go McGuire!

Is he running on a platform?
It is a very strange time to enter the race.

PS. Is Ger Walsh still running?

He's on a sort of green platform as he's a well known environmentalist and bird (feathered) watcher. Hence no leaflets or posters to save resources and no canvassing to keep carbon emissions down (car journeys to hither and thon).

The muppet Walsh missed the deadline! And he was in Wexford at the time! And he was 'confused' too, he thought you needed €500 AND 30 signatures to run, not either/or.

Page 2 of this week's Wexford People. Which says he got a grand total of 20 first prefs in the last local elections. Just as well he missed the deadline.

He is complaining that the registrar did not notify him personally of the deadline etc"

I had to laugh at this

"What do we have a returning officer for if she is not going to notify the candidates"

Well... the invisible candidate was out having his photo taken yesterday on Wexford's quay front by the Echo newspaper, I presume for an article this week, so he may actually get more than his family's first prefs now!
