    Kirk throwing everthing at re-elect

Got home this weekend, all the registered voters in the family received personalized letters from Seamus Kirk (except me!). He's also been in the local papers a lot considering in the last ten years we've hardly heard from him. He has been organising lots of photo ops, had several ministers down since MMG announced and toured mid louth with Bertie last week. Seems to be desperately working in a way he never had to before.

He had Mary Couglan out in Cooley for a tour of the whiskey factory and other local businesses and farms though I doubt he'll be getting many votes in Cooley(which he gets under the FF vote management strategy), from what I have been hearing a lot of people will be voting for Morgan (SF) or Darcy (FG), only negative talk of FF.

The contents of the letter were laid out in 6 points
    1. Hospitals & Health Service
    2. Eduction, Childcare service and Special Needs
    3. Sport & Recreational Facilities
    4. Farming & our rural economy
    5. Roads & infrastructure
    6. Protecting the progress achieved
and a nice blurb at the end where he gets a nice dig in on MMG with 'as someone who lives in Louth...'

He then asks for your No1 vote...

Looks like he just got it out in time before the election spending would kick in!
    Wonder if it will work.

Cooley is Seamus Kirks through stronghold- Kirk is known throughout the pennisula as a hard worker that for the past years has put his life on hold for the peopple of Louth- I know alot of people in Louth- and they will vote Seamus Kirk No. 1 - like all the other elections

As posted on another thread there now appears to be a dirty tricks campaign against Mairead , suggestions that she is paying her canvassers, people claiming to be FG supporters not supporting her etc etc.

A word of caution 'theview' Seamus Kirk is well thought off because he is considered a decent man. But if he or his supporters are running a dirty tricks campaign ( as it appears they are), then its bye bye Seamus.

i dunno, a lot of people seem to think that because politicians of all politics are working harder this election that is a bad thing..

I just don't understand this, it would be my opinion that for the first time perhaps in a long time..they aren't taking us for granted..

    Is this not progress?

I too get home last weekend and got one of the afore mentioned letters from Seamus (also got one from Fergus O'Dowd - but just me - presumbly 'cause I'm the only member of FG in the house).

He's never had as tough an election as this. It's dog-eat-dog for the last seat. Every vote counts. It's a good spectator sport.

He is putting in a huge effort.

He has a couple of problems to overcome. Fianna Fail have been terribly complacent about Louth. They thought they had two certain seats. As a result, Seamus had virtually no national exposure.

There are a lot of new arrivals from Dublin and the North in the county and they don't know Kirk's record of service for over 20 years.

This places him at a big disadvantage compared with McGuinness' huge profile.

If he concentrates on getting his record across, he has a good chance. Fianna Fail could help him by getting him on TV (Q&A etc).

The one thing his people are doing that may hurt him is all this negative personal abuse towards McGuinness.

As can be seem from transfer patterns, she is well liked. That type of thing belittles a good man such as Kirk.

This is a new departure for many T.D's in this election. Used to just having to work away and thus getting re-elected on record, many are cast adrift in this new era of the media crowing winners. I think that it would be very posistive to get all candidates in elections exposed to us on the radio and on tv..and not just the select few 'pretty' ones. This would assist the hard workers to get more exposure and show up the ones who dont have what it takes for what they are.

It is too late a few years into someones term to realise that even tho they look good, that when u want something done, they cant/ wont help you.
