This family stuff really annoys me. I only heard off brady during the bye-election and listening to her on the RTE1 radio debate she really was a poor candidate. Time after time she Kept admitting the failures of FF. She keeps on reheating the same old press releases in the local papers going on about how she is meeting the minister on this and that. As if the ministers have nothing better to do than meet with Brady. FF have 2 poor candidates in Kildare North and all they would be is backbench fodder. Fitzpatrick is in his 60's and Brady is there because of her family connections, hopefully the voters will see past them.

Is this her only experience and only reason for running, to fit in with the family?

Having lived in Celbridge all my life, the first I heard about her was went she ran in the last bye-election.
She is also married to a previous FF Kildare TD, Brady.

It's a good thing to see a woman taking an interest in politics. There are too few women politicians at the moment. I've just looked at Aine Brady's website and asked a friend from North Kildare about her. I was told that she's a hard worker. Her site confirms this ... it says that her track record of work in the community and voluntary sectors is second to none. Politics in Ireland is a family thing. I see no harm in it unless they are in different parties.

Like the Powers in Kildare South?

I don't actually believe it, her website actually says "Her track record of work in the community and voluntary sectors is second to none". That's all very well but what does this track record consist of? I live in Kildare North between two of the largest towns and one of them is home to Aine and I didn't hear of her before the Bye-election and know nothing of what she's done since apart from meet ministers and publish press releases.

If the only thing against Fitzpatrick is his age then he's done well. Unlike Aine's mythical community and voluntary work Michael's actually exists.

Member and former Chairman of Co Kildare VEC
Member of Co Kildare County Enterprise Board
Chairman of the County Rural Water Committee
Member and former Chairman of the Allenwood Community Development Associations PLC
Chairman of the Doadea 9/11 Memorial Committee
Chairman Kildare Peat Co Operative Society
Member of second level school boards in North Kildare including Scoil Mhuire, Clane.
Chairman of Maynooth Post Primary school
Member and former Chairman St. Wolstan’s Community School, Celbridge.

He's work in north kildare on education, affordable housing, créche facilities, and roads "speaks for itself" to name but a few things he's been involved in, not to mention his tireless work for the people in the Allenwood area who I think would disagree that he is a poor candidate.
    A poster of some consequence...

Exactly - Who is Aine Brady? She's not even a county councillor! I honestly think FF could put a monkey up and people would vote for them. It's time to get real, people. We deserve a real candidate with the track record to prove it. Catherine Murphy works tirelessly for the this constituncy and as an Independent TD she can get things done

And what of the unfair, biased and useless coverage Brady gets from the local papers? If i read "Aine Brady welcomes ....." one more time...

Well her husband must have had the shortest career in politics that involved being elected to both houses of the Oireachtas. He was elected to the Dáil in 1981, lost his seat but was elected to the Seanad in the first 1982 election, and lost on both the Dáil and Seanad elections in the second 1982 election!

I think he's due a few days in the Mahon tribunal too.

What exactly has Catherine Murphy done since becoming TD? Are the fruits of her work located in Leixlip or do they spread further afield? Personally, I question the need for someone to have been a Co Councillor before they are worthy enough to be elected a TD. Some of the Co Councillors I know are useless, others are very good. Good or bad, none of them can provide things that aren't due to people in the first place. I think that it is refreshing to have somebody running in the election who is relatively new, with no baggage and who isn't afraid to take on the status quo in FF.

I didn't know Dustin the Turkey was running in North Kildare.

    That's my No. 1 decided.
However, banks know they have a duty of care to their clients and I'm sure that this should prevent them lending irresponsibly.

So you would rather to vote in someone with no track record or experience of being in politics? Hardly wise, kildareman!
