I think they were hoping for a Google buyout that hasn't come.

There is no left or right anymore. O'Toole and Carey differ on this very point, as I suspect you and I do. I would argue that the so called centre right parties left the whole left right ideology behind once they realised it was no longer relevant. Labour are arguing that it still is relevant but O'Toole's patronising tone that we somehow can't see that makes it hard to take him seriously on the matter.
Either that or a Microsoft buyout. The hype was as amazing as the subsequent traffic collapse. Jimbo Wales' (Wikipedia) Wikiasearch venture also folded a few months ago and without any monetisation strategy, Cuil.com must be on borrowed time. (Apologies for dragging the thread slightly off-topic.)

Great article. Well said that lady. Time Labour wised up to facts and ditched the 60s class warfare language.
It is hypocritical for feminists and intellectuals to enjoy the pleasures and conveniences of capitalism while sneering at it.-Camille Paglia
Correct. Carey is without doubt the worst columnist in the country and that includes Harris. She is doing what Harriss himself did. Appeal to the right wing press owners and increase the chances of a few pay days. Anything that they think will tittilate the likes of O'Reilly et al and the result is the drivel that appears today.
As Sarah Carey or was it her father, Councillor 'For' Carey quoted?
"Bad debts make for bad planning"
but Sarah definitely wrote the following:
InterestingIn fact, county councils themselves were guilty of granting permission in order to pay debts - their own.
Levies paid by developers to the local authority on grant of permission were a tempting source of finance.
Many suspect that some permissions were granted with the levy rather than the merits of the application in mind.
I think she ended up shutting down her blog over Strawberries-and-muffinGate:
