Incidentally did anyone see Councillor Billy leonard's interview with Daily Ireland. It was interesting to see how he went about his journal of political re-discovery. Some in SF are highly critica, due to his past in the RUC, but I'm more impressed that he was able to take a look back and say 'what am I doing here?' Which was also probably the same thing he was thinking when he decided to leave the SDLP for SF. He spke very well at the Ard Fheis too.l

Billy Leonard left the SDLP because he was miffed he wasn't selected as a candidate for the assembly elections. He sensed the prevailing wind and jumped to SF. He's an opportunist pure and simple and it is a fallacy to believe he had a damascine conversion.

Maybe true. Maybe he is an opportunist like Declan Bree, Pat Rabbitte, Liz McManus, Nicky Kelly, Damien Hannigan leaving their organistaions to join Labour.

Just so we're clear I am not a supporter of the Irish labour party. Would Mary Lou or Gerry Murray be opportunists then in your opinion?

And for your information, the bulk of the SDLP vote IS a conservative Nationalist vote. When FF move North we shall take that vote from you as conservative SDLP voters aint too fond of the main party's pro-abortion stance.

Very true. Even the Fianna Fail minded deputy leader of the SDLP, Alistdar McDonnell felt it necessary to enlist Michael McDowell's support to highlight his conservative credentials.

The SDLP are NOT Pro-Choice, we recognise that 'Pro-Choice' is a cover for 'Pro-Abortion'. In the last assembly the SDLP was the only party to impose a three line whip on this issue - to OPPOSE legalised abortion.

Party Policy is to always oppose abortion, it's pretty clear. Not one SDLP councillor, MLA or MP has ever voted for a 'Pro-choice' motion.

The pro-life groups are very happy with the SDLP's position.

I don't think XTina misrepresented you, its just that both of you highlighted how bitterly divided and incoherent your party is. You're both right, some SDLP will join FF & some SDLP will join Labour. It's only a matter of time before the divorce papers are filled.
