Was Eamon Gilmore ever in the official IRA?

I know he spent time with the stickies but did he ever have an involvement with their militant wing? And was Gilmore a defender of North Korea in the 80s? The Workers Party were rumoured to be in receipt of money from the People's Republic of North Korea although it was most likely lies from the bourgeoise media

Any help from the older posters would be appreciated

I doubt Gilmore was involved in the Official IRA.

As for North Korea, it was reported in the 1980s that Tomas McGiolla and some others visited there on at least one occasion, whether they got money is another matter.

Currently Sean Garland is fighting extradition to the US on charges that he engaged in counterfeiting US dollars with the North Koreans.

On mature reflection I believe that you are indeed correct.
It was 1983 when the Gardai raided and it was $5 notes

Yeah, only the North Koreans didn't seek the American's permission before "easing" their currency for them.

    I doubt it very much.

It's weird that the Stickies still have a presence in parts of Belfast and Derry.

I know a young lad who got a clatter about a year back for chanting "this old man he played six, up the provos f**k the sticks" on his way home from a night out lol

The OIRA may not be active but they are still there.

And let's not forget they never handed over any weaponry either.

Apparently he was known as 'Eamon Killmore' due to his prowess with an AK 47 . Took out a lot of 'scarecrows in the woods' if you know what i mean . Fought the good fight but had to give it all up for love ,Ive heard theyre making a movie .They are calling it 'Che.....amon '

I remember watching Children in Need (when I was a nipper..i hasten to add) and somebody got under the BBC radar by making a pledge of money "if somebody could come down to the Dunville Park and clear up all the sticks" which Rose Neill dutifully read out.
