    Gilmore calls for General Election

Labour calls for an early general election | BreakingNews.ie

Eamon Gilmore has called for an early General Election and for the current Government to step down in a bid to improve the current crisis.

His call comes as a new political opinion poll shows he is now the most popular leader in the country.

Whilst agreeing with this call, as many will, it is unfortunate that Labour could not come out stronger and in solidarity, on the main issue affecting the globe, the unrelentless murder of innocents by Israeli savages. Only when we stand up for the plight of the defenseless can we truly prosper.

Well it's not gonna be Cowen and it's not gonna be Kenny, so Gilmore is really the only choice left.

He has got to rule out, under any circumstances, even alien invasion, a pact with FF. Better to go to the polls every week than have the gombeen failures anywhere within an asses roar of power again..

I welcome Eamonn Gilmores popularity ratings , he is clear , distinctive and passionate.

However his call for an election is pretty hollow, when it comes without an improviso that they will not prop up another FF goverment.

Dick Spring is still reviled in Irish Polictics since he deluded the electorate in 1992. Before that general election no one believed that a vote for Labour i was also a vote for FF.
Eamonn Gilmores statement would carry more punch if it included this , he needs to clarify that,

I voted no. 1 for Labour in 1992, but Have never ever, even included them anywhere on the ballot paper in national or locals since.

Absolutely NO way they would consider this. They would lose ALL their support and probably cause a revolution!

    LOL!

It might surprise you to know that Gilmore's call for an election is as a result of discussions he is having with an anti-Biffo, anti-Gormley, Fianna Fail Minister who has his eye on the Taoiseach's job (and who leaked the story about the S350).

The objective is to get Biffo out and form a new Government with Labour.

There will be no Election until 2012.

Labour has come out very strongly indeed in solidarity with the Palestinians in this crisis. Both Michael D Higgins and Joe Costello have issued very strongly worded staments condemning Israel's brutality in Gaza, and also the completely unacceptable targetting of Israeli civilians by Hamas. Labour members have been present at both of the last two major demonstrations in Dublin against Israel's actions. Don't confuse Labour's refusal to support SF's grandstanding motion at DCC with any back-pedalling on Gaza.
