Is there any point in Labour's continuing existence

There is really no support base left for labour--is their sole purpose just to pick up transfers from FG---they are not the party of the working class or the unemployed--nor industrial workers--nor small farmers/nor large farmers/ --nor are they what they use to be--the party that middle class people with a bit of a conscience votes for.

    Why don't they just dissapear

Errr, didn't they reach their highest ever total of local councillors in 2004?

The majority cannot therefore be the elite.

Of course - If FF dont get enough seats to form a single party Government we'll need the (Rabbitteless) Labour Party to help us out!

Ah so thats Labour's purpose--to be a silent prop up for either of the 2 major parties when they dont get enough seats to form an overall majority.

    Just like Labours rhetoric---window dressing

Typical SF sour grapes (even before the fact!). They know they won't get within a mile of government, so they're throwing baseless mud at Labour, who have always been extremely active in any coalition governments they've been in. Unfortunately it's unlikely that they'll get in as anything other than a junior coalition party, but that doesn't mean they (hopefully along with the Greens) can't be the leftwing tail that wags the Blueshirt dog.

Sour grapes, please over Labour. You lot will do anything to get into power as all your old men are at the final furlong in their political career's. FF or FG will suit Rabbite and he will jump at the chance who ever presents it to him.

If I had any life savings (unfortunately I don't), I would put them on Labour definitely not going in with FF after the next election. They have a firm election pact with FG and are developing a platform for government, which in all likelihood will also include the GP. Added to that the fact that if Rabbitte took them in with the Builders the rank and file would have him for breakfast. The vast majority of people in Labour despise FF with a passion, far more so than SF, who would roll over immediately if FF so much as looked at them when considering a coalition partner.

Did it ever occur to you that Sinn Fein don't particularly want to go into government with any of the other party at the moment as their all pretty much the same---what would Enda Kenny and Pat Rabbit be --oh I know they would be Bertie Ahern and Mary Harney with less visable arrogance and slightly better manners.
