Rabbitte & Quinn Meet Rafferty Family

Labour Leader Pat Rabbitte TD and former leader Ruairi Quinn TD, who is Dáil Deputy for Dublin South East, today met with the family of murdered man Joseph Rafferty. Also in attendance were Joan Burton TD and Cllr Kevin Humphreys.

Rabbitte called on the Leadership of Sinn Fein to ensure that all Sinn Fein Councillors and members of the Party in Dublin provide full cooperation to the Gardai to ensure that the murderer of Joseph Rafferty is brought to justice.

“Together with Deputy Ruairi Quinn and Cllr. Kevin Humphreys, I met today with members of the Rafferty family and I was appalled to hear the details of the campaign of harassment to which they were subjected prior to the murder of Joseph and the manner in which they have been treated by Sinn Fein representatives subsequent to the killing.

“Having heard the details outlined today by Joseph’s sister and brother-in-law, Esther Uzell and Bart Little, I am satisfied that all available evidence points to the killer being an active member of the IRA. It is also clear that pleas to Sinn Fein public representatives to intervene prior to the murder of Joseph, when he was under threat from members and associates of the IRA went unheard.

“They refused to intervene to save a life prior to the murder and the least they can now do is assist the family and the Gardai in bringing the murderer to justice.

“There are striking similarities between the murders of Robert McCartney and Joseph Raferty. There are also striking similarities between the exceptional courage shown by Robert McCartney’s sisters and the similarly courageous stand now being taken by Joseph Rafferty’s family.

“Society must take a stand with decent families like the McCartney’s and the Rafferty’s when they come under attack, regardless of whether those involved are members of paramilitary organisations or simply criminal gangs. I would urge everyone and especially those members of Sinn Fein who are in a position to act, to ensure that the murderer of Joseph Rafferty is brought to justice.”

Sinn Féin Councillor Christy Burke has promised to resign from the party if the murderer is in any way connected with Sinn Féin or the wider republican movement. On Monday evening, local Sinn Féin Councillor Daithi Doolan pledged to resign his City Council seat if the allegations were true.

It is expected that the Rafferty family will next week meet with An Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, to discuss their campaign.

Good for them. I wonder will they meet with the victims of British state collusion now?

Having heard the details outlined today by Joseph’s sister and brother-in-law, Esther Uzell and Bart Little, I am satisfied that all available evidence points to the killer being an active member of the IRA.
Why doesn't he outline all this evidence that proves it to be a member of the IRA?

If someone goes out and kills someone and claims they are in with the Republican Movement does that automatically make it true.

It is also clear that pleas to Sinn Fein public representatives to intervene prior to the murder of Joseph, when he was under threat from members and associates of the IRA went unheard.
Rubbish. I point you to Cain1798s post(s) on the other thread on this matter.

I would urge everyone and especially those members of Sinn Fein who are in a position to act, to ensure that the murderer of Joseph Rafferty is brought to justice
Why espicially Sinn Féin? What makes them so special?

Especially Sinn Fein because the dead mans family have said that his killers were IRA men. And you may have missed it, but SF have, shall we say, close links with the IRA.

Oh be quiet. The family have alleged the killers were known republicans. Same as in the McCartney case. You guys see a bloody conspiracy everywhere.

Doolan has more or less admitted that the killer(s) was a member of the IRA (on RTÉ).

So if they said they were dressed as clowns, would you expect Fossett's circus to be held accountable? The family probably genuinely believe they are connected, but if they are acting on information that was false in the first place, as Cain1798 has indicated it was, then the whole allegation against SF falls down. I mean really, is one thread of this ************************e not enough?
