    David Norris for President?

If he were to run, should the Labour Party support him?
It is very easy to be a Socialist when one is poor.
That said, it is even easier to be a Socialist when one is rich.

His support for Cathal O'Searcaigh makes him unelectable.

I always liked Norris and would have voted for him had he stood. However, his support for O'Searcaigh makes that impossible.

It's a pity. He could have made a good president.

I don't believe the O'Searcaigh issue will still be an issue in three years.

Labour should support a progressive candidate for President. Whether that should be someone from within the party, or someone like David, I'd be open to debate on.

That's unlikely to be an issue in 2011 surely, though i know i'd still vote for him.

Brian Lenihan's phone call to Paddy Hillary was an issue years later. All that needs to happen is for someone to ask him the question. Then it's an issue. He has no chance and I'm quite sure Eamonn Gilmore has no intention of being saddled with that issue anyway.

Michael D Higgins would be Labour's best bet.

why on earth would Labour support a candidate who apart from a self interested involvment in gay rights is extremely reactionary and a vicious snob?

the President........well, he is a senator...which is an empty office....so he is well trained for a meaningless job.......
The political establishment lacks both vision and courage.

I never support people that discriminate the way Norris does in the Seanad. Its also a known fact that he does not want to reform the Seanad.
