Will Labour lose a seat to Sinn Fein in Waterford

There are still rumours about Brian O Shea not standing next time out. Would this gift the shinners a seat in Waterford.

    Any thoughts?

Between eight LEAs in Waterford, Labour have seven seats - three in the city, four in the county. SF have three (and the Workers' Party two, in the event that a merger be in the offing), all in the city. Do SF really have the upper hand over Labour in the constituency?

It is my understanding that Sinn Fein has two city council seats, one county council seat in the Dungarvan EA and a town council seat in Dungarvan. I also understand that they had NO seats prior to the election. So the facts here speak for themselves - there is a rising SF vote in Waterford. The SF EU candidate for Munster David Cullinane (one of the parties councillors in the city) received 10,000 votes from the Waterford area - thats 1.35 of a Dail quota.

My point is that of O Shea dosent stand will the high profile of Cullinane negate the advantage labour have of extra council seats?

Does it still look as if some of the WP are going over to SF?

There certainly is a lot of rumour. Cllr John Halligan (WP) has been saying a lot of nice things about David Cullinane recently when on local radio. Is this a softening up job for their supporters.

I dont know if WP clls going over to SF in Waterford would be such a good move for the shinners. They will pick up most of the left/hard left votes in Waterford anyway regardless of any merger with the WP.

    Cheers,

Voting wise do they tend to vote along the same lines?

    Stickies merging with SF......
A sellout that would make even the Shinners blush!

It would surely mean the death knell for th Workers Party nationally - they being the only linear descendants of the party founded by Griffith et al. in 1905

Stickies have seen the light and joined Sinn Féin before Barry.

As has already been said before Barry, the Stickies sold out a long time ago.... circa '94 wasn't it.

Sure aren't you the one that wants a Sticky as Tainiste (or maybe even a revolving Taoiseach  )
