    Labour Conference Kicks Off Today

The Labour Party's 62nd National Conference starts this evening in Wexford, with more than one thousand delegates travelling from across the country.

The Conference will be opened by Deputy Leader Joan Burton, and will see more than one hundred motions debated between 18:30 today and lunchtime on Sunday. There will also be elections for Party President, Party Chairperson and the National Executive Committee.

This year's Conference sees unrivalled use of the internet as a broadcast and communications medium, with the entire Conference being streamed live on the internet, regular updates by Twitter & Jaiku, a team of bloggers reporting live from the Conference floor, video blogging from Conference delegates, photo updates via Flickr and vodcasting of Q&A sessions with Party Spokespersons.

The keynote of the Conference will be Eamon Gilmore's Party Leader's Address, which takes place on Saturday at 20:00.

    Krazy...

You need to modify the 'labour.ie Conference2007' link that you provided. It has "[/url" on the end of it.

For anyone not interesting the Scotland game... the working link is:

Wont be watching it as I'll be attending the conference of a genuine Socialist Party, which is taking place in Maynooth from this evening till Sunday.

As for all members of the Right Wing Irish Labour Party hope ya all have a good weekend hob nobbing with your right wing French German and British fellow members at the event!

Thankfully our membership has actually grown since the Election, which ha suprised even me, but I suppose its testament to the good work we have put in on the ground, and in the campaigns we run.

I definitely think turnout will be up on last year, which pleases me no end.

Any hope that this weekend would mark the relaunch of a genuine alternative social democratic Labour party ? A good starting off point would be a refusal to get involved with other parties in tax cut auctions. You could then get onto a meaningful equality agenda, in education ( and I don't mean giving the teachers more money ), health ( stop turning patients into customers ), public services that deliver, steps to end land rezoning millionaires. Real Oireachtas reform ( reducing the number of TD's , junior ministries and those phony sub-committees would not alone be sensible but would also do much to restore the public's faith in politics in general ).
Or will the party continue to be a hotch-potch of FG-lite and " we're not FF, thank God " ?
