Alex White, Labour Party councillor on South Dublin County Council has been elected to the 23rd Seanad. He is the first candidate of any party to be elected to the new Seanad.
Senator White topped the poll in the Cultural and Education Panel with 161 votes.
Speaking after his election he said:
“I’m delighted and honoured to have been elected to Seanad Eireann.
“The Seanad performs a very important function in our legislative process and I will be offering a robust and distinctive opposition to the new Govt, in the upper house.
“I will also work tirelessly towards regaining a Dail seat for the Labour party in Dublin South.”
Senator White is a Barrister and Labour Party County Councillor.
