    What about vetting people or some of the judges that were appointed by labour such as joe costellos sister in law about any labour leaning prejudices after all they are lower in the polls than sf at the moment Roman Catholic schools have the right to vet those applying for teaching posts according to their religous affiliation views on moral and social issues, if one doesn't measure up then ypu are not appointed. This is actually legal under section 35 of The Employment equality Act (1998) Whilst I do not agree with the proposed LP motion, the sentiment is admirable. Perhaps it would be more desirable if it was proposed that all civil servants should sign a declaration as part of their employment contract, such declaration stating that in matters of policy no discrimination or favour may be shown to any one religous denomination.

    You can try and dress this up whatever way you like but it is highly bigoted and an infringement on the rights on the person.. And bordering on totalitarian -
    At this rate I'm glad labour are a fringe party who will have even less influence after the next election

    At one point yesterday the motion was going to be withdrawn but was later put back in. There has been some to-ing and fro-ing between Labour HQ and several branches on it. The motions will go out next week and several branches will be proposing amendments to the Clontarf branch motion.
    The final motions for the Labour Party Conference were issued today. The motion relating to the Clontarf Report remains in place and is unaltered and no amendment to it has been proposed.

    Motion 49;

    Conference notes the report “Illegal Religious Discrimination in National Schools in Ireland”. It asks that theactions recommended in this report be considered by the relevant regulatory authorities – the Department ofEducation and Skills, the Equality Authority and the Commissioners of Charitable Donations and Bequests.

    You might give them a chance to vote on the thing first - at this point it is only a proposal. You'll be glad to hear that there is another motion that calls for the re-opening of the Vatican Embassy.

    I hear turkeys vote on a motion in favour of having a second Christmas every year. Oddly enough it never passes.
