Just noticed this Indo article Tuffy's name has now entered the fray.

"Mr Broughan and Mr Nulty both voted against coalition with Fine Gael at a special party meeting after the general election, as did Dublin Mid-West TD Joanna Tuffy. Ms Tuffy did not return calls last night."

Maybe this is actually turning into a big heave?

Labour's newest TD won't rule out Budget 'No' vote - News, The Budget - Independent.ie
He won't go - it's a charade. He is particularly spineless. The government will probably roll back on some of the things that have been leaked such as cuts to children's allowance and he and others will claim that they fought hard to win that and in that context will vote for the budget... watch this space.

He also knows Burton may not stand again and even if she does she will likely lose her seat - Varadkar will be hit too - so he will play this role of token opposition a sort of Dublin version of Mattie Mc Grath when he was in FF. Scream and shout but ultimately vote with the gov.

Storms and teacups at work here. Upholding principles for "leftish" politicians makes the stubborn refusal of a 3 year old to eat peas look like model behaviour. Deputy Nulty appears not to realise that a misplaced belch will be reported somewhere. TBH it is disappointing but not surprising that a complete newbie already appears to be yet another waste of space. As is oft quoted on this site, it's senior hurling now!

    What would be the point?

We all knew things were dire before the election and that they were only going to get worse.

Only total idiots believed anything any of the political spinners 'promised' pre-election.

They're all lying spoofers after all, which anyone over 30 should be well aware of and wise to.

Even if by some miracle, the SF'ers and the ULA had won they would now be accused of lying because reality would have consigned their bullsh!t policies to the dustbin months ago.

So a few Labour back benchers have bottled it... so what?

If they all bottle it, they'll achieve nothing apart from easing their consciences.

I'm a seasoned party member (i.e. well over 30) and not particularly happy with them at the moment but I wouldn't consider myself a 'total idiot'. I can't stand FG and detested the PD's and FF's ethos and policies but I wouldn't ever say that they are 'all lying spoofers'. Get over yourself! Public expectation in every area is too high in this country, particularly amongst those under 35 who spent like there was no tomorrow during the Celtic Tiger and are now blaming the banks and politicians for everything instead of growing up and accepting that they had a part to play in it.

Nulty has already done himself damage within the Labour Party by suggesting that he may not vote for the budget. Risky stuff. I fully expect him to walk on Tuesday on the basis that he and others do not expect Gilmore to last. Upon the election of a new leader they can all rejoin and save face.

And this is indicative of why people see Labour (and others) as being completely out of touch.

I'm 30 and have NEVER done what you claim. You're full of it.

I'm sure that's what Gilmore would like to think. You maybe proven correct but the mood within the Labour Party appears to be very negative towards his leadership. I give him another year at most.

    they may be

but I would expect that FG may also be facing a mutiny too for their lilly livered behaviour since getting into government
