Brian Lenihan to me would be equally matched with joanna. however labour has long trumpeted how we should seperate justice and equality and law reform. i think joanna should be assigned equality, justice reform and oireachtas reform (after her work on the petitions committee in the seanad) then when bertie shakes up his cabinet we should shake up our front bench. sherlock is in my view now a contender for leader and i believe he would be a wise choice. hitting hard against the greens will be our task in the next election. i also feel we must present a strong presidential candidate next time round. labours ultimate strategy should be to become the largest party in the country. we will never achieve another spring tide claiming so many seats in one go. however by being tough on the greens and tough on SF we can gain seats and make our power across the country stronger. above all we must make people aware, THEY DON'T NEED FG

As a floating voter - who cares?

The Labour party has to get rid of the image of being a pensioners' part by having a younger front bench. Unless of course it reinvents itself as being the Pensioners' Party. The danger now is that Labour will get the reputation of being politically irrelevant to the vast majority of voters. The Greens are now more relevant and after Rabbitte's DL takeover of Labour, most people who might have considered voting for Labour will now consider the Greens. The LEs could be very interesting if Labour hasn't got its act together by then.

    Regards...jmcc

To be fair Sherlocks tie to DL was more of a family link and does not carry that much relevance. His active political life has been solely with labour.

Labour needs to look at labour. Democratic left, stickies whatever. Its irrelavant, its in the past.

I think they need to position themselves as a potential party of government in their own right.

Ok first of all lets get real about Labour's young TDs. All of them were elected to the final seat in their respective constituencies. Lynch benefitted from the Boyle vote collapse which won't happen again in 2012! Sherlock as with his father for many counts before him, only got elected on the back of Cobh and Shinner Transfers but even then a stronger FG will almost certainly take the Labour Seat. Tuffy will probably hold in there to be fair to her but this will be as much due to anger with the Greens and Harney's expected retirement. She may speak well but does she really stand for anything?

I think you'll find that Ciaran Lynch took the 4th seat and Simon Coveney got the last seat in Cork S-C

    Alan D thats some analysis.

Remember there was a Labour seat in csc long before there was a boyle.

Sherlock Polled 7200 on first outing. Thats going to increase as far as I am concerned .
If Fg are going to win northern seat they wont win southern one in Cork east

Mol an oige agus tioccfaidh se.

Dont be such an old mans arse
