Richard Boyd Barett in Dublin South East

Richard Boyd Barrett a member of the Socialist Workers Party completely disguised his true political motivation and airbrushed any reference to socialism from his election literature.

If he had been honest about his political views, he would have probably polled only a fraction of what he got.

Lefties are now claiming that his showing is a sign that the left is in rude good health - ludicrous.

Am glad he didn't make it. Imagine having to listen to 5 years of whining by this attention-seeker

You mean he would be as bad as Eoghan Harris?

Harris has never sought to hide previous affilliations and in his Late Late show appearance two weeks ago admitted readily that he had previously been FG etc and has often changed his mind. That's completely different from someone hiding a deep political motivation from the electorate

You missed the point. Harris is just a whining attention-seeker with maximum ego and minimum talent. After all he lied about being the key figure in Robinson's campaign (the campaign team saw him as someone on the fringes who had some good ideas at the start and who has been dining out on it, as if he was THE key player, for 20 years. He almost sank John Bruton with his ludicrous Twink sketch. And as for his tantrum in walking off the Last Word, one wonders why the Sindo continue to pay for such a mediocre non-entity as Harris to write for them. Is it because they feel sorry for him?

I agree that that he writes a lot of rubbish but now again he comes out with some gems - a bit like Myers, Browne and O'Toole

    Hmmm...

I'm inclined - God knows why - to distrust a thread started at one in the morning, which states that Richard Boyd Barrett runs in Dublin South East (actually, he runs in Dun Laoighaire) and is in the Labour forum (when he's not a member of Labour).
