Norris should be concentrating on the ind councillors! If Dana & Nally could do it why can't he? He should be targeting 10 councillors and have proposers and seconders in place and call every other councillor and persuade them to at the least abstain! This will involve hard work and doing a bit of listening, but it will also test him and see if he is really serious!

I spoke to him over a pint that evening, and - for a man with his achievements - he was disarmingly modest.

He brought more fame to Ireland than most, was a wonderful ambassador already for his country, is a superb role-model for our young people, and lifted the spirits of this nation more than most. I said to myself on the drive home - that's the man that someone should propose for Uachtarán na hÉireann, and - if it came to an election - I think he would be unbeatable.

I would vote for anybody who didn't come from the political establishment as would half the country i'd say, as they have all failed us to one degree or another. as hooky put it, he'd go on a ticket of "anyone but them". It would be perfect, to show the political establishment exactly what the people think of them.

is there some expectation now that presidents get two terms? if so would labour not go for fergus who could manage that as opposed to higgins who already said he wouldn't
What does the Irish President spend their time doing. Work in progress

He is good at the negative polemic but when it comes to the positive all embracing vision I dont think he has it.
