How socialist can a Labour candidate like Arthur Spring be? When he grew up in a Georgian manor, attended a private college in the US and learned his trade working in Anglo Irish Bank. Uncle Dick now is pouring huge amounts of funds in his quest to elect his nephew at the next GE and pulling so many strings in high circles to get him unfair amounts of media coverage it would even make Charlie Haughey blush.
In Fairness Springs wealth would make Haughey blush,In fact Springs wealth would make your average celtic tiger developer blush
Spring is the perfect icon of the Irish Labour Party ... loaded middle class professional filling his pockets while preaching socialism ... it was ever thus

Don't mean to be rude, but you really don't have a clue what you're talking about.

I wasn't around when the merger was being debated, so I simply don't know the extent to which Dick Spring opposed it.

However, I do know that Arthur Spring would not be selected unopposed as Dail candidate, if the leadership was not 100 per cent behind him.

After the way Terry O'Brien was treated behind the scenes at the last GE by the Springs no other Labour member would put their name forward. It goes back to when Dick was a TD, keep the organisation under the control of the family and keep all local reps weak and purge anybody who speaks out. That's why Arthur Spring is not being opposed. Also he was Arthur John all his life, but to rub a bit of working class into him he has now become Arthur.

Thats definetly true and O'Brien and his supporters are not happy campers at the moment and will hardly vote Spring never mind support his campaign, also word is that Cllr Spring has'nt exactly set the world on fire on either council.

Let me see if I've got this right. People are so infuriated with the Springs that they decided NOT to run against them. Hmm interesting. Clearly they do things differently in Kerry!

So Its Denihan (FG) election first count.
And then 2 for 3 of Spring (Lab), Ferris (T or M? - SF) and McEllistrim (FF)....

I see Spring getting elected as Labour did very well in the locals, so either bye bye Ferris or the first constituency in modern (any?) time with no FF TD?

That's about it, although I doubt Arthur would be overly concerned about who picks up the other two seats.
