Jack O'Connor: most miserable man in Ireland????

after watching questions and answers tonight its hard not to come to the conclusion that jack o connor from siptu must be the most miserable and cheerless man ever to get on that show (which is saying something)

he didnt break a smile even once. and didnt take part in any banter.......even during the rugby question.

so who put the sand in his vagina???

    lol

Yes, he's pretty dry from what I can see. I think it's something to do with socialism, one can't be seen to be enjoying oneself in a Capitalist country!

Socialist??? He's no more Socialis than Ian Paisley's a member of Opus dei! Calling Jack Soiebheen O' Connor a Scoailist ! - I'm rolling round the floor laughing at that!

That guy has sold out SIPTU members countless times over the eyars, be it hrough the rotten partnership process, or rotten deals done with companies (eg Irish Ferries).

In all seriousness, would a genuine Socialist have enterted the Partnership talks???

larkinite, im still regretting that ye got to use the word socialist in yere party title as ye believe that anything ye disagree with is not socialism. While im not in favour of social partnership over the last few years, what was the option? a free for all in local bargaining?, a free for all is NOT FREE and WILL NOT BE FOR ALL. I do belive the time has come for a break in the partnership agreements and I belive that the union leadership would concer, but to dismiss the agreements to date is naive, petty and downright ignorant of the gains we the workers have made. If people like you were making the desions from the soapbox, trade union members would have been losing money in quite a few pointless strikes, I wont say all strikes as over the years certain employers would only concede once there was a withdrawel of labour. But would you be able to clarify how Jack O conner sold out to irish ferries as I am intrigued how you figures that out from the pictures in the paper.

It is not really disputed by anyone that social partnership has seen a transfer of wealth from labour to capital.

I don't agree that union leaders want out of partnership - I think they cling to it for dear life! It is more likely that partnership will be brought to an end by IBEC, particularly in an economic down turn they will want more freedom to manouevre.

Irish Ferries management fundamentally got what they wanted from that dispute - the recent Prime Time documenatry on RTE illustrated the point further where management ahd effectively being forcing out remaining Irish workers as a further attempt to bring in migrant workers who they will seek to exploit.

Lets remember within three days of the 100,000 on the streets Siptu were sitting down negotiating to sell out the workers.

Can't really answer that one but as long as workers vote for Partnership it will be allowed to continue - the membership of SIPTU endorsed the latest partnership agreement and that has to be taken into account.

But if the unions were to give a fighting lead rather than trying to break the militancy of certain sections of the workforce, then working class people would have more confidence in their unions to fight rather than accept social partnership. As long as the union leaders continue to sell out militant trade unionists, confidence will remain low (unless of course there's a change in objective conditions) and as a result, workers will choose the path of least resistance through partnership.

    ghost of james connolly

remember, the f**kers signed a no-strike clause with connex/veola who run the Luas.... yeah i can well imagine james connolly and jim larkin marching into william martin murphy's office and saying: "Look willie, if you let the lads join the union, we'll pledge that no matter what you do, or what dirty tricks are up your sleeve, we won't go on strike."
The SIPTU leadership snapped defeat from the jaws of victory over irish ferries

Not smiling is hardly a crime. I do think it is a bad sign of a person if done in day to day life, but let's remember it was questions and answers. maybe the man doesn't like rugby, have you thought of that?
