Yes, I agree Quinn should step down, he's been in the Dáil since the 1970s. I am not familiar with Kevin Humphreys, hard to say how Ivana Bacik would do, as others say, doubt if she'd do well in the working class areas of the constituency, but I could be wrong.
Labour certainly will attach a lot of importance to gender balance and that will favour her.
I don't like the idea of Ruairi Quinn staying to hold the seat for his son, we should be moving away from hereditary seats. That said, if Oisin Quinn is genuinely able, that's another day's work.
Labour, more than the other parties, seems to have TDs staying on forever e.g. Michael D. Higgins. Time for some new blood.

Humpreys is about to get shafted methinks.

just being mischeivous here but if that happened and humphreys ran as "independant lab" what do you reckon would happen?

i personally think bacik is unelectable as she just rubs people up the wrong way. lab heads love her but from what ive seen most people are "meh" at best, outright hostile at worst..

i mean seriously how many elections does she have to lose? ( and i mean REAL ones, not the senate fix)

Either way you could be right in regards the seat been minded for him.
You are right, and yes that still 'keeps the seat in the family' in the great tradition of irish polititions.

If Kevin ran as an Independant he would do damage to Labour in the inner city .But would he do it ?

No. You forget that Kevin is the leader of the Labour Group on Dublin City Council with an umblemished record of servcie to the party and the people he represents.

Oisín is Ruairi's nephew, not his son.

There has been suspicions of branch packing going on with the Fitz-Kearney branch enjoying a sudden surge of membership. I hope Lacey isn't out maneuvered in the jockeying for position. He may be overplaying his hand with his bid for the Mayoralty as Gilmore will almost certainly want a high profile candidate for that. He might be better staying local.

Yes I agree as I have said before he is an excellent Cllr , but he has got ambitions and would make a great TD in regards to public representation .

It is a tough decesion for Labour, Quinn or Humphries its just a pity that Quinn is the obvious choice .

Yes but if he is shafted up the Ying Yang, if the Inner city is shafted up the Ying Yang, so a Labour Head office pet project can get yet another crack at the cherry.

Ivana is a Tony Blair for Dublin minus the electability, the ability to connect, an ability to demonstrate a relevance to most people or improve their lives.

Reading the"The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists" is often not enough for the great unwashed to vote for you, the ingrates.
