Roc you asked me a question there a while back?

Do I support pulling out of the EU?

No. But the discussion seems to have dealt with the fact that blaming the EU for immigration difficulties is not entirely accurate.

The Rainbow Government in 1996/1997 was preparing a serious of measures that would have led to a Green Card system for non-eu citizens coming into Ireland. Joan Burton was the junior minister with responsibility for the measures but one particular party ran with racially- charged litreture locally that probably didnt help her chances of reelection.

It is ironic that it was a local fiaana fail operation that distributed the litreture suggesting she was going to open the floodgates to mass immigration.

I have no problem with immigration. But I do have a problem with the likes of Mosney, or the s**thole immigratuion bureau on Burgh Quay, or the fact that since the 2004 referendum the deparment of justice will not process citizenship certificates for children of immigrants born in the 26 counties but will for kids born in the north. And so on and so forth.

There is simply a total lack of coordination and of planning. How can criminals from Russia come to Ireland to prey on people and communities who thought they had left those thugs behind them?

How come we do not even pose the question have you ever been convicted of a crime?

How come we think putting an ad in the Irish Times notifying immigrants of visa changes is a means of communication likely to reach any significant number of them?

And on the other end of the scale why should my friend not have to worry about getting penalty points because he doesnt have an Irish licence.

Why should one Nigerian couple who are now citizens refuse to collect childrens allowance because they are embarrassed about how some of their compatriots grab everything going.

Wqe need to talk about immigration. We need to map out a process for the future of immigration . But we need to talk about the abuses and the refusal by some to have any responsibility.

We sure do mate. But unfortunately the people we elect to do these things would rather stay schtum and just get on with trousering our money
The truth is incontrovertible, malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end; there it is.
