Electronic bugging could prevent antisocial behaviour targetted at families

Media often report cases of families or individuals terrorised in their houses by antisocial elements gathered outside in the street, with an ineffective response by the Gardai and the courts.A case made headlines recently in Limerick.Typically, the Gardai drop by occasionally but that is not enough to deter criminal acts such as breaking windows, damaging cars, shouting threats etc.

What is needed is evidence for prosecuting cases that can be gathered without requiring round the clock Garda time. The solution: Garda surveillance units could set up automated cameras and electronic listening devices close to houses targetted by the antisocial groups. Such electronic bugging devices are available at modest cost and it isn't rocket science to set them up.

After convictions are obtained, punishment should be swift. Usually, the criminals come from a small number of families in even the most socially deprived areas.Often, an appropriate punishment would be eviction from council housing, but the courts and the councils rarely apply it. They should realise that by taking a liberally soft attitude towards criminals, they are failing to perform the first duty of government, the physical protection of its citizens.

Why dont we microchip these so-called antisocials?

Why not tax the farts we make?

Why not install cameras in every corner of every city, town and village?

Why not make people who say god might not be real a criminal?

Why give pwoers to gardai that can be abused to the detriment of a civilian non criminal on personal opinion of the gardai.

Why not take away peoples freedoms one by one?

Oh wait its happened / happening already...

    -------------------

Why not educate people better and create a more civilized society?

Why not give people something to do instead of turning to crime?

Why keep products such as cannabis on the black market through prohibition and in turn feeding criminals pockets?

    Why oh why?????

If your house is targetted by antisocial criminals, will you tell the gardai not to bother because you are prepared to wait for your version of a just society that will be free of criminals?

Great idea in theory, but in practice it would have to be operated by the same goons who have about three working speed cameras in the whole country.

Why not get a professional, effective police force?

The government has failed to finance the rollout of cameras. Wasn't Gay Byrne supposed to resign from the RSA over this? Probably needs the money.
