Bray Killer brought knife at 24hr shop

From today's Irish Times, it appears a block of knives was brought between 3.30-4am which was later used in the a series of stabbing attacks in Bray.

Now, knives are a restricted item of purchase. Why wasnt this lad refused.

Did the person selling the knives at 3.30am not wonder why someone was buying a knife at such an odd hour.

To any normal person, the first thing that would come to mind if someone was to purchase a night at 3am would be its for TROUBLE. Its not for baking a cake.

Probably put it through a self check out machine as well.

You could wander into alot of 24 hour supermarkets off your trolley, buy a lethal knife, check it out yourself and off ya go.

He must have money to burn. Why not get a knife from the kitchen, or use a frying pan. They should be illegal

Some bad idea like a ban on sharp knives might result from this, when the killer being touched in the head might have been a bigger cause.

We don't let people buy alcohol after a certain time of night, it would not seem ridiculous to ban the sale of knives after a certain time of night either. One is as likely to require a bottle of wine late at night as they are a knife.

He was sober and buying a knife set like any young person who moves into a new place does. This nutter would have found knives at family home or aquired a weapon near the crimeescene. Heard an interesting point that pointed knives should be largely banned as most people dont need them and a flat tipped knife would suffice for most uses.

Perfectly normal people buy alcohol too, but we don't allow them to after 10 at night.

Did you hear that story back in 2005?. Or did you hear it today?

    Doctors' kitchen knives ban call

Doctors say knives are too pointed
A&E doctors are calling for a ban on long pointed kitchen knives to reduce deaths from stabbing.

A team from West Middlesex University Hospital said violent crime is on the increase - and kitchen knives are used in as many as half of all stabbings.

They argued many assaults are committed impulsively, prompted by alcohol and drugs, and a kitchen knife often makes an all too available weapon.

The research is published in the British Medical Journal.

The researchers said there was no reason for long pointed knives to be publicly available at all.

They consulted 10 top chefs from around the UK, and found such knives have little practical value in the kitchen.

None of the chefs felt such knives were essential, since the point of a short blade was just as useful when a sharp end was needed.

The researchers said a short pointed knife may cause a substantial superficial wound if used in an assault - but is unlikely to penetrate to inner organs.
