Inquiry recommends two gardaí be sacked

An internal Garda disciplinary inquiry has recommended that two armed gardaí who got drunk while on protection duty at the US Embassy be sacked.

The two went drinking and subsequently fought outside the pub and at the US Embassy while watched by civilian security staff and US marines.

One of them subsequently handed over his gun to a uniformed Garda and drove home but was arrested and subsequently convicted of drink driving. RTE News

Disgraceful, conduct unbecoming of any officer of the State. The fact they were armed only makes the matter more shameful.

Is there anything that can be done about the "F*** you, I've a job for life, can't fire me so I'll just be a lazy incompetent arsehole" unbearably smug attitude that has become rampant in the public sector?

Is it a simple matter of political cowardice? Surely, surely, surely public sector employment contracts don't allow you to even think you could get away with such gross misconduct: abandoning your post, getting drunk on duty, physical fight with a work colleague? In the private sector they'd have been fired on the spot.

    Shock !Horror!

Ah you young gents have some way to go, to learn how this country functions-or malfunctions.
Watch Michael O'Leary though, during the coming days.
If he succeeds-everything is changed-and changed utterly.
One small step for Ireland. One huge step towards the eradication of Fianna Fail and every form of stroke politics they stands for.

At least one thing can be said about this Justice Minister - he's less likely to put up with this type of BS for too long. How come those two cops weren't done for disturbing the peace - there was a cop there who took the gun from one who tried to drive home ?

For that matter, Stone et al. are a disgrace and should be drummed out.

Sack the cretins without pension and be done with them... Not only have they embarrassed (& this is too small a word) themselves, but also the State.. and they were on duty for a foreign power.. FFS!!
