Why buy a tabloid when you know where to go to access tabloid-worthy material online. How clever!

My overall point is that a racial caricature, and big ears are often part of a racial caricature of black people (see the old cartoon), is not in itself racist, it's what cartoonists do.

I was surprised by the first image, given some of your past comments. Ah well.

Each cartoon is to be judged on its own (de)merits. As far as I am concerned, the Danish cartoons are racist. The cartoonist may have been trying to make a point about 'terrorism' and extremism. In his efforts to do so, he depicted all (Arab) Muslims as violent, primitive extremists. If he couldn't make his point without exploiting prejudices and fears about a whole region/race, he needed to rethink things.
I'm saying that using racial caricatures is normal in cartoons, and not an indication of racism on it's own. You need more than that, you need to demonstrate that the cartoon is making a generalization across all Arabs, or all Arab muslims (although that wouldn't technically be racism).

How did it do that? How do you read "all arab muslims are violent primitive terrorists" from the cartoon? Please explain why using a caricature of a particular race in this case is racist, while using racial caricatures in non-sensitive cases are not.

I don't think you can counteract intolerance with intolerance.

The cartoons are racist and xenophobic.

Continually asserting your position isn't going to convince anyone. Can't you explain why they are racist, while other race based caricatures are not?
