The cartoons are depicting a political ideology that is predominantly believed by a particular ethnic group. It would be very strange to avoid depicting that ethnicity to avoid being "racist". It would be like a cartoon about R & B depicting as many black characters as white, asians, etc.
The funny thing is that cartoon does indeed depict white, European islamists. Is that part of the cartoon racist?

I have no desire to hijack this thread and turn it into a debate about the Danish cartoons.
The cartoons primarily depict Arab / Middle Eastern Muslims and exaggerate the ethnic and racial features of people living in that part of the world. If a cartoon depicted Black or Asian people in a similar way, we would say it was racist. There are European, Asian and African Muslims but the cartoonist has focused pretty much exclusively on one ethnic group (within Islam) and has caricatured their racial features and played to prejudices about people with that background. When I look at those cartoons I see racism and xenophobia, much more so than blasphemy, on display.
I wouldn't call a caricature of members of another race racist, unless it is making a stereotyping statement about that race. If the cartoon was saying "Arabs are terrorists", that would be racist. That's not what it's saying though.
Is this cartoon racist? Notice the oversized, monkey-like ears on Obama. Notice that the white American is overweight.
Muslim terrorists have so far predominantly come from the Middle East and North Africa. Most of the 9/11 bombers were from Saudi Arabia. It would be strange to depict West African Muslims or others in the cartoons, since that's not where the terrorists are generally from.

The Danish cartoonist was making a stereotyping statement about that race. He was exploiting the prejudice that characterises people from the middle east as violent. Notice the swords, the malevolent expressions, the turban bomb.
In the Obama cartoon, the cartoonist is caricaturing a physical feature of Obama specifically rather than his race generally. That's acceptable.
The Danish cartoonist tried to make a statement about blasphemy, Islam, extremism, etc. Unfortunately, he couldn't help relying on crude racial and ethnic stereotypes.
In fairness Femme, to depict Mohamed he would have to employ characteristics of his culture and race. Caricature isn't about subtlety, it's all to do with crude exaggeration.
There may well be tam-o-shanter wearing, freckled, red haired, Muslims but you'd need an essay beside the cartoon to get the message across if he opted for that look.
What race are Muslims exactly? Typical cappuccino left BS. Unless the likes of you are challenged we will never face down Islamic extremism because when the violence and intolerance is shown up the likes of you will shout RACIST! at the top of their wimpy voices. Islam is a religion a belief system that you can change as opposed to colour which you can't. Cop on and stop crying wolf.
It is hypocritical for feminists and intellectuals to enjoy the pleasures and conveniences of capitalism while sneering at it.-Camille Paglia
Swords, malevolent expressions, bombs etc. would be pretty bad, except they're caricaturing terrorists! What do you expect? The idea isn't to paint a picture of nice friendly terrorists...
Large ears are associated with racist cartoons against blacks. Exaggerated ears are also present in this genuinely racist cartoon:
This cartoon though is not racist because of that caricature though, it's racist because of what it's saying. (although I suppose the fact that only the black characters are in cartoon form is also racist, while in the Danish cartoon all characters are done in cartoon style)
You also ignored the fact that the white guy was caricatured as overweight. That is a caricature based on a stereotype of white Americans.

Why just be blasphemous, when one can be racist and xenophobic to boot.
To class the Danish Cartoons Racist is no different than classing these two scenes as Racist
