Netherlands to close prisons for lack of criminals

nrc.nl - International - Netherlands to close prisons for lack of criminals

In the spirit of European solidarity, maybe we should help them out by sending some of our very finest on an extended "Iron Vacation"?

It would probably be cheaper per inmate as well given the Dutch reputation for efficiency.

We would not need to build Thornton Hall.

We wouldn't have to pay over paid prison officers who spend half the year on the "sickie".

Cannot see any down sides! Do you?

    From the article:

Some reprieve might come from a deal with Belgium, which is facing overpopulation in its prisons. The two countries are working out an agreement to house Belgian prisoners in Dutch prisons. Some five-hundred Belgian prisoners could be transferred to the Tilburg prison by 2010.
When you see the words "Mises" or "Hayek" in someone's post, just ask yourself: do I really want to ban paper money and go back to gold?

You have to pity the kind of people who buy into conspiracy theories. I find the following to be the saddest words on the internet: "Re: connection between Bilderberg puppet lady gaga and viral outbreak in ukraine "

We'd beat that in a week with the amount of fare dodging that happens on the Red LUAS line!

This has gone off topic - to be viable it would have to be used for sentences of 1 year or more.
No use packing somebody off to Holland for a month for fare dodging.
