Cyp - I rang to ask. It is sitting this afternoon and will be Dáil members only.
I wonder will the media be covering it?

Apparently the meeting coincides with the report on child abuse and media outlets are naturally focusing on that. So not looking good for coverage.![]()
The enemy of my enemy is the enemy of my enemy. There are lies, damn lies and Fine Gael confusions. "I don't understand." Alan "it's only 79 punts" Shatter
"We are such stuff
As dreams are made on; and our little life
Is rounded with a sleep." - The Tempest, Act 4, Scene 1
Anybody know why the publication of the abuse report was delayed until yesterday? The more I think about the timing of Grand Mufti Ahern's amendment on blasphemy the more I grow suspicious about whether (a) it is intended to intimidate critics of the catholic church in the coming days and (b) whether he wanted to use the storm across media over the abuse scandal in the hope of slipping the amendment through quietly.
If those people named arrange for this amendment to go through the time for talking about principles of democracy is over. It'll be time for war as far as I'm concerned and Ahern and his creepy little Italian Colonel mates will move straight into the sights.
It would be an honour to go after them, fair means or foul.
You think the abuse report was delayed to silently slip the blasphemy announcement through....?!
Why do so many people find it hard to believe that the blasphemy law is a non-issue for most people. Clearly, not on this forum, but for the masses, it simply doesnt concern them.
There was a mention of Aherns "amendment" and statement on the Breakfast Show on Newstalk this morning; Yates said he didnt see the need for it and moved on after approx. 10 seconds. Fair enough, the abuse report took up most of the show but they did fit in a few other items but never returned to the blasphemy thing.
Thats what the little creepy Italian Colonels and their acolytes want. Its an issue for anyone interested in free speech as a principle and eliminating the dead hand of the christian church from the running of a democratic republic.
And most of all from the mentality of 1950's creeps who defend child abuse because it was the church that was the perpetrator.
Now that even the most ostrich like devotees of the Catholic Church have been forced to examine the impact of allowing fundamentalists to hold sway over our country perhaps they will begin to see just why the proposed legislation on blasphemy was greeted by such abhorrence by many of us on this forum and others. Perhaps now the sneering of individuals dismissing us as cranks will turn towards introspection instead. Does anyone still believe that blasphemy legislation is a non issue? Will Dermot Ahern continue to lambaste us as conspiracy theorists and pea brains?
